I've been a bit busy with "other things" - like making stuff! Hehe!
I now have an account at YouTube.com and I have posted some videos about my
workshop, what I am working on these days, how to make the clay balls I
couldn't explain well in pure text.
I also want to make a video...

raku firing by
Red Deer
Hi All,
I'm getting a portalble raku kiln next week. I've been looking around
my yard for a suitable place for it and I was wondering how close to
the house can I put it. I'm hoping for a space about 20 feet from the
house. Is that ok? I'll have access to the water hose and the ground
is...

Boycott Gettysburg by

Link to Gettysburg photos showing the Gettysburg battlefield before
superintendent John Latschar's ego ran amok and ruined it.

We loved Gettysburg: married there, took dozens of week-long trips, spent
many thousands of dollars there, and even considered moving there....

Hi All,
Speaking of raku, does anyone know where ferric chloride can be
obtained? I'm getting ready to get my own raku kiln and I like the
brown highlights spraying ferric chloride on horse hair pots gives. I
looked in all my pottery supply catalogues and can't find it. I was

Anybody out there know of a good high fire kiln cement? by
Steve Mills
I have used 140TW Sodium Silicate and Kaolin (China Clay) mixed to a
soft paste. The items to be joined need to be pre-wetted or they extract
all the moisture and the joint fails.

Looking for a kiln by
Bill DeWitt
Hi folks,
My planned purchase of a used kiln fell through, so I am thinking about
buying a new one. If no one minds, I would like to pick some brains here
before I commit.
I have seen the various manufacturers, but of course have no knowledge
with which to differentiate between them. All...

Homemade propane nozzle? by
Bill DeWitt
I have seen some intricate plans for black iron nozzles but I wonder if
anyone knows of pages with any information about the -how- and -why- of
propane nozzle design. I'm wondering if I could shape one directly into the
firebrick.

Looking for a used pottery's wheel by
Dan
My wife is taking her 2nd set of classes in pottery & I'd like to find a
used wheel for her to use at home. Can anyone suggest a good source for
such equipment, either via mail order (especially with a web site) or in
the Pacific Northwest (we're in Seattle). Any suggestions as to

Preventing warping? by
Bubbles_
Me again
I _think_ that the thicker the "slab", the easier it will warp. I have to
have a very flat, thin slab that doesn't warp at all (yes, for my clock).
I would like everyone's tips on how they prevent flat "tiles/slabs" from
warping, please?

Slumping and firing by
Bubbles_
Hi folks :-)
Okay - I have been wondering how to fire a couple of pieces. When they are
all put together, they will have surfaces that won't be touching the oven
shelf, and I worry about slumping occurring. Especially one of the pieces
just can not do that (a clock face).
So, I was thinking -...

Bird baths by
Red Deer
Hi Everyone,
I want to throw a 2 piece bird bath. I have no trouble with the tall
pedestal but the wide low bowl part is giving me a problem. The sides
start to sag when I pull it out so far. There must be a secret trick
to it. If anyone knows how to throw a wide (maybe 15 inches) low

high fire with no bisque firing????? by
E. Paul Wileyto
We're going to fire some hand-made tiles to cone 4 or 5, but intend that
they should be unglazed. Is there any reason to go through the usual
cycle of bisque-firing, cool down, and then high fire if the ceramics
will not be glazed? We were thinking that it would save time if we went
directly...

Distoring ware by
Kevin
Hello Fellow potters,
I have a problem with some cheese dishes I've fired to stoneware in an
electric kiln. The inverted bowls that act as the cheese cover distort in
the glaze firing. Cant figure out why. They come out from the bisque firing
OK but when fired to 1265'C instead of coming out...

Wood & Sons by

I recently found two plates in my loft with the below information on them.
My mother can date these back to at least 1900.
The plates have a crown on them, with the below written underneath the
crown:

Around the top of the crown, the below words are circled around...

HEAT RETENTIVE PLATES by
Juan
Hello,
I have invented a new type of ceramic "heat retentive plate" that you
preheat in a microwave oven for just one minute, it stays HOT for 1/2
HOUR and the rim remains cool for easy handling.
Please see:
http://www.heatstoragedish.com
I will answer any questions and teach anyone interested how...
