New discussion forum for pottery, ceramics, kilns by
DD
For a while it has been difficult to find any good place on the web to talk
about statuary, ceramics, kilns, clay polymer, paints, brushes, and
supplies. This forum started just a few months ago, is rising in popularity
as a great place to discuss these...

Homeless Potter by
[email protected]
OK, I don't need a home but I do need a studio to work at. I just got
back from Japan and I will be moving, into the Pittsburgh, PA area,
next week. I am looking for any art teaching gigs, and just a place for
me to make some work.

Tutorials by
Lori
With all the recent discussion on ClayArt, I thought others might be
interested in seeing just what we've been up to at school. It's been
an interesting project, to say the least, and was started early in the
semester - just no time to bring it closer to completion in the gallery
until now.
The...

George Ohr by
Steve
He was the Mad Potter of Biloxi. There are a few books on his work and style
..The Web has many sites that touch on his work but I believe the books will
tell and show you more .

making plaster molds by
JM
I want to experiment a few design ideas, by making molds of body parts -
i.e. hands and feet. Is it possible to make two piece molds, or do they
have to be more complex?
I can't reply to posts for the next two weeks, but I would like some input
and will read on my return.
Many thanks all!

kiln shelves by
richard
Hi
Can I have kiln wash on both sides of my shelves? There are several glaze
drips and chipped areas on the washed side. I would like to use the damaged
side for bisque and the freshly washed side for glaze firing.
Thanks

Japanese (coil?) wedging problems by
Bubbles
Hi everyone!
I have been trying to learn to do the japanese wedging. It looks soooo
simple and relaxing when my teacher does it, but I just can't get the hang
of it. While her wedged pieces have a lovely knob in the middle and the clay
goes neatly back from the coil, I have a hole in the middle...

What can this be? by
[email protected]
I have this piece and do not know what the saying means,
SI DY POMIS S
I also would like to know if anyone else has seen something like this
before and can give me information on it. It is difficult to find a
marking due to the bottom. It appears to have one but I don't want to
clean this too...

FA: New Electric Olympic Kiln Lid $189 by
MarkC
This is for a kiln lid only. It was never used. It has a 240v 8 amp
element. It is 23.5 " wide & is for a kiln with a 18" wide firing
chamber. It could be used as a replacment for an existing non-element
kiln lid to speed up firing time or for glass...

Spray Gun Recommendation - UK by
Jack Ouzzi
Anyone recommend a reasonable spray gun for use with glazes and other
thickish materials. There seems such a vast array of nozzle sizes /
tips etc etc that it's truly baffling. Not for huge industrial use,
just occasional studio pottery use in the UK.
Thanks

9th gen. potter video can be viewed free by
Brad Sondahl
I just watched Unbroken Tradition a portrait of Jerry Brown, a ninth
generation potter from Hamilton, Alabama. If you have broadband
internet, you can watch it too for free at
http://folkstreams.net/
It was filmed in 1985-6 but could have been made in the 1800's for the
technology employed--hand...

Rice grains in walls of porcelain bowls by
KSL
I am interested in the techniques used to put grains of rice into the walls
of porcelain bowls.
Are the bowls thrown or slip cast?
At which stage of the procedure is the rice inserted?
Must the wall be as thin as the rice is thick so that it is exposed on both
sides?
