Roman Coins by frood
Two coins walk into a Roman bar.... errr, I mean... My guild is hosting a workshop this weekend to make quilts for the 400-some people relocated (temporarily or permanently) due to Katrina. One of the sections in the workshop is making Roman Coin quilts. We've been instructed to cut strips to be...

Spokane Quilt Show by Idahoqltr
I just returned from the Spokane Quilt Show. It was wonderful! I really wanted to raffle quilt which was appliqued barn blocks, but I didn't win it. I bought several things from vendors and enjoyed looking at the rest. I took about 30 pictures. I will try to post some this week.

Update on Joe: on and off topic. by Kate Dicey
We did a flit to the Frozen North on Friday: I am happy to report that my very dear FIL's 'replacement hinge therapy' has gone well, and he should be going home tomorrow. He looked and sounded well, and though the bruising LOOKS alarming, it is fading well, and he can walk without his crutches a...

prewashing cotton batting by Julia Altshuler
Martha wrote: I've just made a try-piece with Warm and Natural cotton batting and washed it. I get a nice crinkly effect. But what if I don't want that effect? Can I prewash the batting and have it stay whole? Water is good. Agitation is bad. You can pre-shrink your Warm & Natural...

Alarmed, my identity taken by joysjane
I sent this message once, but didn't see it - did anyone else? Am I going crazy? Because I sent a message to my other ng and I never saw it posted there either?!?!? I am (or was) a member of one other newsgroup for I Love Lucy fans. I hardly ever talk there - even less than here. Anyway, today...

This weeks' bargain by Nann Hilyard
I took a big box of clothing to Salvation Army on Friday. Yay! Good to get it out of the house, then out of the car. On the way home I stopped at a garage sale. There were two milk crates filled with quilting magazines. "3 for $1" said the sign. I told the women that I had $10; would they...

October BOM by Julia in MN
I made the Northumberland Star, following the directions at http://www.quilterscache.com/M_O/NorthumberlandStarBlock.html. I decided I really don't like working with bias edges, and I figured there must be an easier way. I came up with a method where the bias seams are sewn before cutting, similar...

Swap clearing house? by frood
Back when Millenium Quilts were all the rage, there was a web site that list lots of different swaps that were going on. Does such a site still exist? Not for MQ swaps, but for other ones? Also, does anyone remember a web page called Stella... something? I can't quite remember the name of it, but...

I took bad quilty pictures by Debra
Last night I thought I'd take pictures of the quilt tops and some of the old embroideries I got at that yard sale, plus some of my 3 QIs, so I could get them on webshots. No such luck. Evidently there wasn't enough light for my digital camera and all the pix I got had a horrible case of blue...

What are scraps ??? by Heidi from Germany
Loved the posted sites about scraps and how to use them, but now how do you define scraps ? B.e. if I cut fabric of from a FQ or maybe half a yard. Mostly I have left one big piece of fabric and the remnants of a stripe or remnants of several stripes. Until now I stored them together. What do you...

OT The Horrors of Blimping by NightMist
A couple of words have been *ed for those unused to vulgarities. Just letting you know they are there in case you are offended by vulgarities. Last week while traveling I stopped at a Zany Brainy store and saw that they had a blimp for sale. It's called Airship Earth, and it's a great big...

OT buying a radio by Polly Esther
This might not be OT. Many of us think good music is as important to quilting as good needles and thread. Our last fine old radio went out the door yesterday with our daughter who has the Katrina damage. She says they were badly suffering from Merle Haggard Withdrawal Syndrome. Other than Bose -...
