Home? by Minstrel Pig
Greetings, I just started reading this newsgroup today. I've already found a wealth of information. Have I found a home? I've been working in the clay-arts for about three decades (not professionally) and have moved around for most of them. I've finally found some stability and have started...

Clay for Beginners - Throwing by Mud Dawg
Jim, are there any pottery supply stores or studios close by? Your wife can throw all she wants and then reconstitute the clay unless it is fired. Eventually, she will want to experiment with glazing and start keeping her work. In my opinion, she also needs to decide what cone she will be...

Has anyone tried this glaze? I am looking for a full, waxy, smooth, satin white glaze and this one looks like it will do it. I'd like to hear from anyone who may have tried it. Thanks, Gaye

Mastering Cone Six Glazes, Our Test Results by GaSeku
I tried to change the subject title, but it reverted back to the other one.. I would love to hear of other's test results. Here's mine for Waterfall Brown, though not terribly accurate because it turned out to be overfired to at least cone 7. Waterfall Brown is the only one I have tried so far. I...

Pitting & Pinholing by Lindsay MacArthur
Is there any harm in refiring pieces that have pitting/pinholing? Can refiring help at all or will it make it worse? I can almost guarantee the pitting/pinholing resulting from the glaze being too thick as the only pieces that have it are those that I double dipped to mix colors. I have done...

soda kiln by Heather Graham
I have been inspired by the Jack Doherty kiln shown in Ruthann Tudball's book to try and build one myself. For the last month I have been researching where to get materials etc and have come across people on Clayart talking about ITC100 - a coating which claims to protect against wear and tear...

newbie question on kilns by Beowulf
I am thinking of buying a kiln-- a couple of questions... when i see gas kiln prices in a catalog, do gas kilns include everything needed such as the burners? And 240v electric kilns (cone 10)... how hard is it to wire up 240v outlet for such a kiln. What do you all recommend, electric or gas kiln?

^10 HEATING QUESTION IN HOME MADE KILN by bri
Hello All: I am building a small kiln that I hope to take up to ^10. I am using an oil burner to get up that high but it heats too quickly at the start so I plan to use a smaller propane burner at first to hold it at about 100c for a while and raise the temp slowley after that, then at some point...

Storing clay by CNB
I broke out some clay that I've had some time and it's to hard to work with. I find that it doesn't keep moist in the bags that it is packaged and I'm tired of fighting it. I buy about 500 lbs of clay at a time because I have to take a road trip for it and some of it may be kept for 6 months or...
