Stitching tools? by
Joan E.
Hi all,
In cleaning out some of dear-departed MIL's stuff, we ran across some
tools, which we thought might be stitching tools. I've posted 4 new
pics on my webshots album http://home-and-garden.webshots.com/album/358698631yQeGBs?start=48
It's the 2nd to the last picture.
They are on an 8 1/2x11...

Bird brain? by
Addie Otto
Last week, we bought a pet parrotlet (think miniature parrot) and he has
finally become comfortable enough around us to climb on us and fly around
us. Except, I can't figure out if he loves or hates needlework! He thinks
gold French knots are seeds and tries to eat them and chews on...

Short Long Stitch & scanning trouble by
bungadora
Well after much putzing around, my first short-long stitch piece is
up. The stitching is less than ideal, but I thought I'd put it up.
Even though I'm not happy with this piece, now I want to do more! I
think the next one will be with DMC and linen though. A bit easier to
manage for old Stumble...

Hoops/ scroll frames and more by
D.M.Evans
Now, I am sure this is has explored here before. I can't decide if I am
a hoop person( that is what I learnt with) I like the nice taut surface, but
I undestand it crushes the threads( I never left my work in it). I have
done large stuff on scroll frames, but they are harder to transport and...

Thimbles by
KTinMich
I'm currently working on Scarlet Quince's large version of Van Gogh's
"Starry Night". It is huge and will take me about 2 years to get it done.
I have finished less than 1/3 of it and am getting a pretty sore "needle
push finger", the middle finger, that is. Gotta get a thimble. Tried a...

true confessions about recipes by

I have tried hard over family recipes to write them down by measuring.
I add as I would normally then tip it back into a measuring cup.
Somehow it never seems to work.

New to stitching by
Joe D
Hi,
I have just recently started to learn to stitch... cross stitch for now and
hopefully needlepoint later. I have a question about frames. What kind do
you all find the best to use? Hoops? Scoll frames? Q-snaps? I have seen all
of them in the shops and the choice is bewildering. I think I would...

MLI Copies on ebay by
Pat in Illinois
The person who was selling MLI and other designer copies on ebay is now
No Longer a Registered User. So I guess ebay does respond when
notified! Seems a shame, they had been on ebay since 2003 - you think
they would have known it was a bad thing to do.

USA Politics. by
Joyce
I would like to know the difference between Democrats and Republicans.
After all, USA is a democratic republic, isn't it?
I also don't get a vote, but I wouldn't want an African-American just
because he's black, or a woman just because she's a woman. Each should
stand entirely on his/her own...

Bad kitty! by
Jinx the Minx
So I come home tonight, and my kitty left me a nice little "present"
right on top of three brand new, purchased Sunday afternoon, skeins of
DMC and one remaining partial (of which the dye lot has since changed--
it's old school) I left laying on my couch last night. My question
is, do I wash them...

Politics by
Dianne Lewandowski
A few of us have followed political events since 9/11 with great interest.
In that vein, the Democrats have aired a commercial that is causing
quite a stir: positive, negative and a shrug of the cynical shoulders.
If you'd like to see it, you can go he

Another Use for XS charts by
Karen C - California
Carol Duvall had a creative use for simple charts: wall painting! Using a 1/2"
square of sponge glued to a piece of 1/2" wooden stake, dab paint onto the
wall, counting dabs instead of stitches.

Some Enabling and Stithcin' Hello (long) by
ellice
Hi all,
So, thought I'd say some hellos, and some stitchin' conversation.
First, the boss brought back form Nashville a lot of these - I find them,
well, er, interesting. Haven't seen many comments - so thought I'd share
the link and see the feedback. The Mermaid's Folly - I immediately...

Off topic "culture/fashion" question by

I saw the phrase "Brazilian implants" used in an article on fashion models
in the WSJ (specifically referring to the incredibly skinny models with
breast and Brazilian implants".
So - Google wasn't any help - I found something about eye surgery...

Floss usage experiment: Different help requested. by
F.James Cripwell
I wonder if a few people could do a little experiment for me,
measuring another aspect of floss usage. Take a piece of canvas,
either 14 or 16 stitches to the inch; or maybe if you are willing
to do this twice, both. Take a single strand of floss, one meter
long, do a loop start, and complete...

Myreschka embroidery by
Yvette
I did the first part of a two day course today at my local guild on
Myreschka embroidery. Always wanting to know the traditions behind
these sorts of things, I asked the teacher if it was traditionally
worked in white on white or in colour. She didn't know the answer.
Does anyone here know...

OTT light vs. Balanced Spectrum Lamp by

Hi folks,
I'm thrilled to finally be in a position to purchase a new lamp for my
stitching nest and am having a difficult time deciding which of the different
"natural daylight" lamps to buy. I just completed a google search and re-read
a number of posts about the OTT light vs. the Dazor vs. GE...
