Waterproofing and Frostproofing Clay Pots by
Bill H
Hello
I have some clay pots that I have brought back from Africa, they are clay
that has been fired in a kiln but not glazed.
The clay after firing is a terrcotta colour.
I need to protect them from the UK elements, rain and frost, no room
indoors!
Someone suggested painting them with PVA glue...

Mechanical help mixing recycled clay? by
Bubbles
Hi folks!
Up until now, I have been recycling my clay manually, but this is holding me
back when it comes to doing repetitive exercises on my wheel, as I think
about all that clay I will then have to moosh and dry and wet and dry and
knead.
We have spent quite a bit on equipment for the workshop...

Pottery classes? by
windriverfamily
Hello, folks!
I'm a new lurker to this newsgroup. I'm hoping you can help me connect with
a pottery community in Portland, Oregon. My mother was a potter, and I
grew up scouring the hills (so to speak) for native clays. Sometimes we'd
build raku kilns on the beach and fire what we made there! ...

computer program for inventory, sales etc? by
frankg
does anyone know of a small program that can be used, by a couple who make
ceramics, to keep track of their product line - production, sales, raw
materials etc. Preferably something that has already been set up along these
lines for arts/crafts people.
thanks

Firing clay churchwarden pipes by
Nibin
Hi! I have recently started experimenting with making Churchwarden
pipes out of white earthenware clay. By what I have read the pipes are
not glazed, and must be fired at a low enough temperature to retain the
clay's porosity. I really have no idea at what temperature this should
be as it is the...

Problem with Stilts by
Suzan
Hi Folks!
I just fired 8 stoneware mugs with cone 6 commercial glaze. I glazed the
bottom of the mugs and placed them on stilts. In a few cases, the stilts
seemed to have melted. These stilts came with an old kiln and a bunch of
other stuff. Are stilts made to different specs, i.e. high fire,...

What to make for my niece? by
Bubbles
Hi again!
My niece is being Christened soon, and I will be one of her godmothers.
Thus, I would like to give her a very special gift, but am at a bit of a
quandry as to what to make.
I thought an angel that could hang on the wall over her bed (or at least in
her room) would be nice. I have some...

Centering and throwing by
DKat
When I was throwing the other day I was trying to quantify and qualify what
the whole process was all about. One of the things that struck me that may
confuse beginner potters is that when you are wheel wedging (when you make
the towering cone) it is easy to think that what you are doing is...

Hi everyone. I am new to the group so I don't know what questions have been

I've been making pottery at a community studio for the past 3-4 years. This
studio uses gas fired (cone 10) kiln and glazes. Recently, I've been using

Hello Everyone,
I threw a tall pedestal all the way down to the bat and I threw a 12

pedestal to the plate it looks like it bows up in the middle of the
plate like if you put a marble in the exact middle of the plate it
would...
