Help with gold plating? by
dtbray
Hi All:
My wife likes a particular swiss army ss watch and would like to have one
in gold, which is not made. Is it feasible to buy a new one, have it
disassembled and gold plated? I know this sounds silly, but?
Thanks, Tom

Strange CZ? by
Jack Schmidling
I bought two pieces of CZ from a supplier recently, one garnet color and the
other emerald green. The difference in weight between the two pieces was
way out of proportion to the difference in size so I did an SG on them and
got 4.2 for the red and 2.7 for the green.
I checked the RI of the green...

Tumbler abrasives by
Jack Schmidling
I have several tumblers, abrasives that came with them and abrasives from
telescope making.
The stuff that came with the tumbler is simply coarse, medium, fine and
polish with not a clue what they really are.
I also have 80, 120, 220, 500, 12 u, .5u and cerium oxide.
Would someone please lay out...

Rare/Unusual Metals by
Mike Crowe
I'm not a jeweller at all, but hope someone on here might be able to help me
out with something.
I'd really quite like a ring made from an unusual metal, but how would I go
about finding a jeweller that does that? And what metals would be possible?
I know a bit about the properties of some of the...

I know next to squat about platinum by
Carl West
I know enough about platinum to know that
I don't know enough about platinum.
I'm facing an 18k yellow gold and platinum chain (a bracelet) where a few
of the gold links have let go, and I'm trying to asses the risks involved.
I can do the actual gold repair, that's not a problem. And I know...

Old mold rubber by
Mike72903
Would 5 year old Boxes of Castaldo Ready-Cut Mold Rubber still be usable? I
think I have read in the past they lose the abilty to vulcanize after a time or
vulcanize by themselves at room temperature over time or somthing like that.

My Antwerp diamond experience and advice on price please! by
simon3000
Dear Guys,
I wondered if any knowledgeable person could give me any indication on
what they felt the likely "fair" retail value of the diamond below
would be?
Although the answer is fairly academic now because I've bought it (for
4000 euros including the 18ct white gold ring and setting, which...

Clasp Options - Twist Chain Necklace by
arpagonus
Hello,
I am trying to come up with a clasp for a 24" heavy steel chain. It's a
twist chain, a big version of what is commonly used for wallets and keys and
that sort of thing. The links are about 1/2" wide and about 3/4" long. The
chain weighs about 5 1/2 ounces.
Any suggestions? Also on how...

type of torch? by
Robin
Is there a torch setup that can be used for jewelry soldering as well as
lampworking? I have an air-acetylene torch now, that I understand can't be
used for glass work and I may sell it to buy something that can be used for
both. Also, what are the considerations for changing torch tips (eg,...

I was wondering if anyone knew where I could buy - or have designed -

Question about Moldavite by
porkchops
I just ordered a Moldavite ring from the online store
www.natures-emporium.com, and it's beautiful. When I asked if it was a
genuine Moldavite, they said yes it was. It cost $42.00 for the ring
itself.
Here's a link: http://www.natures-emporium.com/moldavitering.html
They say that Moldavite is...

Seamless ring joints by
Anat
Hi,
I'd appreciate an advice from you experienced guys on making seamless
joints in rings. While the soldering on the external ring diameter
always becomes seamless after filing, the inner diameter side of the
joint often stays visible.
TIA,
Anat.
