broken kiln for salvage by [email protected]
Hello, I have an old skutt electric kiln from the 70's, it has no timer and was fired too high and all the pieces in the kiln melted onto the sides, shelves and bottom. I realize that the kiln is probably ruined and not worth repairing. I am wondering if there are any salvage places, or if there...

Hi guys I had some SERIOUS bubbles from the kiln opened yesterday, so today I took the worst piece with me to my dealer (in both senses of the word! LOL!) and picked his brains a bit more. I fired to 1250 with 2 holes open throughout due to some crystaline glaze I am also trying to get to...

building a raku kiln by RBT003
I'm interested in building a raku kiln, but have so far only been able to find fairly complicated models with expensive thermometers, burners etc. As I only wanted to try raku out as an experiment, does anyone know how you can build a home-made one at low cost to be used in a garden? Thank you for...

burnishing? by Wumpus
Can anyone tell me how burnishing is done? I've done it while trimming using a hard flat stainless steel surface, pressed against the clay as it rotates. But this is only partly successful. I have heard that people use river rocks but I have had no success in my limited experiments with those....

Buying a wheel by Karen
My husband has wanted a wheel for quite awhile, and I've finally decided to get him one for Christmas. (And hopefully he won't Google for me and find this thread before then.) I poked around the FAQs and didn't see any how-to-buys, so I'm going to have to beg advice. I'm thinking a kick-wheel,...

buying clay in bags? by mj
Hello, can anyone describe the best way to mix and prepare larger amounts of clay from bags (dry), without having clay mixer and pugmill? Or perhaps with just a pugmill (like Venco)? Any experiences? thanks

cake stand by Red Deer
Hello Everyone, I threw a tall pedestal all the way down to the bat and I threw a 12 inch plate form and they both turned out great but when I attatched the pedestal to the plate it looks like it bows up in the middle of the plate like if you put a marble in the exact middle of the plate it would...

Calculating shrinkage by GaSeku
Is there a fairly simple, but most importantly, very accurate way to figure shrinkage? I would love to know how to be sure the finished piece would fit, say a ring for large water urns, spigots, lamp kits, etc. Thanks for putting up with all my newbie questions.
