Need advice about what to buy Shimpo, Creative Industries, Brent? by
Lischneid
Hi everyone,
How do the Shmpo VL Whisper Creative Industry Big Boss or the new smaller Brent
compare for maintenance issues and for throwing ability? I am a hobbiest and
can't imagine ever centering over 10 lbs of clay. The Shimpo is is expensive
but looks like a terrific wheel that does not...

cat likes to eat clay by
sandi
Sometimes I will catch one of my 6 cats (it's the same cat each time) trying
to eat my clay. Usually it's when it's leather hard. Especially when I am
trimming he will jump up on the table of the wheel and steal a ribbon of
clay as I trim it off the pot. Will it hurt him if he eats it? I take...

Is Western pottery going through a Dark Ages? by
taitwaad
I have consistently noticed upon entering pottery stores
not only in the USA but also in Europe, that many of their
offerings are pretty much the same: low-quality, non-artistic
highfire garbage. The stuff they produce is badly proportioned,
oddly shaped, devised apparently not to aid actual use in...

Beginning glazes? by
Sam
I am dissatisfied with the results I am getting from "Duncan" glazes as
far as blending colors in their underglaze products. I suspect that to get
what I really want, I will have to learn a lot more about glazes. Where
should I start?

Any opinions on The Paragon Home Artist Kiln? by
PissedOffCFer
I've talked to one kiln dealer who doesn't sell them simply because he
hasn't had requests for them, but earlier today I found one online for
675.00 and that's with furniture and shipping.
I went ahead and placed my order for it, however I'm wondering if
anyone has any experience or opinion on it....

Kiln hookup advice? by
Sam
So I had just about decided to set aside a little bit more money than I
really should spend, and buy a slightly larger kiln. But I found that I
probably won't have the electrical outlet I need unless I either hire an
electrician or supplant my dryer. So alternatives are the cheaper kiln and
an...

to glaze or not by
sandi
Hello everyone,
I'm making toad houses and I was wondering whether or not to glaze the
whole thing or just the inside or just the outside. Toads like a
moist environment so if I don't glaze they will get that but to make
it easier to keep clean maybe I should glaze. I' firing to cone 6 so
it...

Urns? by
Sam
I want to look at some thrown vase like pots with paired handles that I
have always called "urns", but apparently, that word has been taken over by
the cremation folk.
Does anyone have links or galleries with such things? TIA
