mystery material by
mike
I have this bag of material out in the shed that I inherited from
another potter. The bag says DESERTALC 51. Does anyone out there know
what this is? My guess is that it is some form of talc, but I really
have no idea.

Cambridge controller by
Mike
Hi
I'm just rebuilding an old kiln, and it came with a separate Cambridge
Controller model number 401R+.
I assume from the model number that it needs a type R thermocouple, is
this right? Inside it has a linking plug, like in a computer, called
LK2, what does this do?
Can anybody photocopy or...

Copper Barium/Zinc Purple Glaze by
mike
In the book "The Ceramic Spectrum" by Robin Hopper, he states that
copper can produce a purple and plum color in both oxidation and
reduction, cone 6 thru 10 in high alkaline or barium/zinc glazes. I
was wondering if anyone out there is familiar with this coloring from
copper. Anyone have a...

manual kiln use by
Mike LaViolette
I purchased a manual kiln at an auction. It's a Skutt model 231-18
and is probably 35-40 years old. It's in excellent condition, in
fact, it's in better condition than the electronic kilns I use at the
contemporary pottery studio where I work. The person who owned the
kiln before me no longer...

buying clay in bags? by
mj
Hello,
can anyone describe the best way to mix and prepare
larger amounts of clay from bags (dry),
without having clay mixer and pugmill?
Or perhaps with just a pugmill (like Venco)?
Any experiences?
thanks
