Dry matt barium glaze (Ox ^6-10?) by
wayneinkeywest
Try going to www.digitalfire.com
They have an excellent substitution listing.
Personally, I would stay as far away from that glaze as I could. You don't
mention what cone you are firing to, but considering the toxicity of the two
items (barium and lithium)
perhaps you would be better off using a...

Beginner's Question--Potter's Wheel by
Buck
They're all over the place, of course, and have dozens of characteristics
and quirks.
I remember two things (From how long ago I will not mention!):
1. A MASSIVE foot powered wheel that seemed to hold momentum forever. No
power required except the legs. Are these antiques, (or at the very...

Wine coolers by
Red Deer
Hi Everyone,
I've been invited to sell my pots at a wine festival in June. I make
stoneware pots but I wanted to make some wine cooler pots for this
event and I was wondering if stoneware will work as a wine cooler.
All my glazes are cone 6. If I just bisque them, will that work? I
want to at...

newbie needs help on simple question by
Beowulf
I am just a newbie in clay and throwing-- just got my own wheel after
taking some private lessons. My question: how can I rig up something at
home for kneading the clay? I mean, should I glue some canvas to an old
table, or use a staple gun to snugly attach canvas to the top of an old
table, to...

Bisque firing temp? by
GaSeku
Is there a general rule about what temp (cone) to fire to the bisque stage? For
example, is it usually one cone under what you would use for glaze? I have some
clay that is Cone 5 and it seems I read that you fire at a lower cone for
bisque than when you glaze.
Thanks for answering all my ultra...

watering dry clay by
Wes
Pardon my ignorance but I bought some fire clay and it is in dry powdered
form. Do I just add water and start stirring? Any idea of weight of water
to weight of clay? My application is to seal a metal box that will be used
for case hardening in order to keep air out.
Thanks in advance,
Wes
