how do I sew elastic together? by Dora Smith
I am making a sacroiliac belt. It is a firm but moderately stretchy belt that goes around the hips for some kinds of pelvic instability. I couldn't find the appropriate material, so I got three inch heavy elastic, and I am sewing several 48 inch strips of it together, back to back. What is the...

Singer Monogrammer by Tom Farrell
As I was saying when I was so rudely interrupted, I really like my antique Singer Buttonholer for the very hand-worked-looking buttonholes it makes, and in the manual they mention cams to do monograms. I searched ebay for a Singer Monogrammer and I only found them for a slant needle machine, and...

Death and Stashes by Sharon & Jack
I love this thread :) And I have a question: is there a point in time after which you deem fabric to be too old? I've already discovered (the hard way) that elastic has a life span. I have material in my modest stash which I'm fairly sure is closing in on 20 years old. And I say modest...

Step 1 by Atom1
I thought I'd share my transgression. Step 1: Admitting there's a problem (defeating the denial) I order lots of fabrics via internet- I have more than enough for the hereafter. I currently am on a serious fabric diet. I have squished myself right out of my sewing room- my DH reminds me of this...

Sewing Fleece... by KR
Hi, I don't post here often but have a couple questions. I am making my daughter's Halloween costume out of fleece, do I need to finish the edges or will it not fray? I also learned that my sewing machine refuses to sew on velcro. Any tips on how to do this before I go ahead and do it by hand? ...

Help with Elnita by Niagara Foodie
Hi there, Well, after years of moving around, I finally had my Elnita tuned up -- $$$ and an hour away. I brought it home yesterday, and proceeded to start a dress for my daughter -- with beads. A few minutes in, I hit a bead, the needle broke, and now the stitching is uneven and I hear a bit of...

Brother xl3010 by Fyrman
Any chance anyone might have a digital owners manual for this machine? We tried the web site but they want $25 for a downloadable copy. You'd think after spending that much on a machine an owners manual wouldn't be an issue! Anyhow, my wife is on maternity leave right now so money's pretty tight....

Kenmore 385.15516000 - Can it sew elastic? by Oakdale6884
I own a Kenmore sewing machine, model 385.15516000. Does anyone know if this can sew elastic? I need to sew a piece of elastic into a circle, so it would be sewing elastic to elastic (3/8 inch swimwear elastic). If it can handle elastic, what tension setting do I need to use?
