Building dollhouses for sale? by
Cathy Weeks
Is there any money to be made by building dollhouses for sale? From
the looks of things from eBay, no. But I could be wrong?

An after-the fact introduction by
Cathy Weeks
Ok,
I thought I'd give you a bit of background now that many of you have
answered my zillions of questions. :-)
My mother went to dental school when I was 9 years old, and the summer
I was 10 (1979) she had to spend that summer in school. It was our
first summer that she wasn't going to be...

Adding to the electrical after the fact? by
Cathy Weeks
Ok, I just got the electrical starter kit (now if only the rest of the
supplies would arrive, then I can get started!). I know I have to plan
for all outlets and light fixtures now, and that's no problem.
But, the kit doesn't come with the larger brads for the outlets, nor
does it come with...

Started the cottage by
Cathy Weeks
Just wanted to share. I primed and painted the body of the house
tonight. Kind of a pain to do with my wrist in a cast, but definitely
doable. The house walls are "Hazy Green" and the gable I mixed my own
color by adding white to it, to make a pale green. I have a very dark
green, but I didn't...

Another wiring, flooring, and roofing question by
Cathy Weeks
Right now the plan is to do my flooring on cardstock or something like
that, and to run the tape for the first floor ceiling fixtures on the
second floor, then cover it with the flooring which will be fixed down
in a semi-permanant method.
I got to thinking...instead of running the wiring on the...

Covering the edges of rooms? by
Cathy Weeks
One thing I don't like, is when you look into the rooms of the
dollhouse, at the edges of the room dividers and floors is seeing the
layers, of paint, wallpaper, flooring etc. On some pictures I've
seen, it's painted white, which looks nice. But I was wondering if
anyone ever put moulding along...

Shingles at junction of gable and roof by
Cathy Weeks
Shingling is going well. I was worried that I'd find it tedious
(especially after the experience of staining them), but it's rather
zen-like, and I enjoy it, and seeing the progress.
Shingles in the junction of gable and roof are also going fine... My
question is more hypothetical...what's to keep...

Tracking down a loose electrical connection? by
Cathy Weeks
Ok,
I've got the coach lights installed, and about half the time, they
turn on when I plug the house in, and half the time, they don't.
So, I got out my tester, and starting checking each splice. Where it
comes out from under the house - that's fine. Where it attaches to
the wall, that's fine. I...

Erasing/patching a stairwell - photos of the process by
Cathy Weeks
http://weeksfamily.net/dollhouse/stairwell.html
Here are pictures of the process of getting rid of a stairwell. It's
not perfect, but it does look pretty good, and I'm not unhappy with
the results.

Paint for doll-house building? by
Cathy Weeks
Hi all,
What's the difference between the paint sold in dollhouse craft
stores, and the stuff sold at your average hardware store? Quantity?
Viscosity? I don't have a convenient dollhouse store nearby and trying
to look at paint colors over the computer is giving me a headache.
I'd rather go in...

"Heating" for small victorian cottage? by
Cathy Weeks
As soon as it arrives, I'm building the RGT Victorian Jr. Out of
curiosity, how would such a small cottage have been heated?
Fireplace? Wood stove? Etc?
How were the bigger victorians heated? My dollhouse was destroyed in
a fire last fall (it was assembled and finished, but not furnished)...

Thornhill Questions by
Cathy Weeks
Hi,
I think I'm going to get the Thornhill manor with the insurance
settlement (well, the settlement is going to pay for a portion of the
Thornhill) on the dollhouse I built that was destroyed in my parent's
fire.
I have a few questions:
1. It looks like it has a smooth exterior (unlike the other...

How do you do cane-bottomed chairs in mini? by
Cathy Weeks
One of the projects I'm playing with is recreating my parent's antique
dining-room table. It had rose-backed chairs that went with it, and
the seat bottom was cane-bottomed. How do you do that in miniature?

Book recommendations by
Cathy Weeks
Hi all,
I'm looking for some book recommendations.
1. What are the best books for building minis? I'm interested in
recreating certain pieces of my parents antiques, so I'm interested in
more overall how-tos rather than plans and specific projects. Are the
"Cabinet Maker" guides good? Is there...

Working mullioned windows by
Cathy Weeks
I plan to replace the windows on the front of the Thornhill with
working mullioned windows. But the only ones I've found are from
Lawbre - at a cost of $20 a pop. Are there any that are cheaper?
I've found working windows (non mullioned) and I've found mullioned
windows (non working). But...

spray primer by
Cathy Weeks
A housepainter used a spray primer when we hired him to paint the trim
on our (full-sized) house. It was quick and easy (don't remember the
brand). Has anyone used it on a dollhouse? And what were their
results?

Installing a mailslot on the door - which piece goes inside? by
Cathy Weeks
Ok, I ordered this tiny mail slot for the front door, and it's got two
parts - a "rim" designed to go around a hole/slot in the door, and a
piece that shaped exactly the same, but solid (ie, it covers a slot in
the door). It's obviously supposed to simulate a little door that
covers a mail...
