Jewelry in India / Gems in India by

Hi!
I hope that I can give you more background on this subject. By
way of background, I have been involved in importing gems
and researching jewelry in Asia since 1975. My wife wrote
the book "Jewelry of Nepal" (1999 - Weatherhill) and is a
German, professionally trained in the German...

Help identifying antique jewelry by
Chris Shearer Cooper
I know this isn't quite the right forum, but I'm hoping either someone
here can help me, or at least point me in the right direction.
I've discovered an old photo that is probably my grandfather as a
young man (aged probably about 10):

Sulfur by
Ted Henderson
The local farmers use sulfur to dust the orange trees and grape vines
locally. I was able to obtain a bottle full from my neighbor. Is there
a recipe for making liver of sulfur from plain sulfur?
I stuck some copper into the sulfur powder and got a black patina on
it- was looking to try for some...

Crucible Sizes? by
Muso
Hello, folks. The last time I posted here, I was casting zinc arrow
heads. Recently, I have been hanging out with lead bullet casters.
And now it looks like I need to learn how to cast brass. The reason
is because I want to build a bottom-pour pot.
I already know from experience that when...

Can Palladium Rings Be Sized-Down? by
hmbrt
I recently purchased a palladium wedding band that is slightly too
small. Having bought it through a friend for a discounted price, I am
unable to return or exchange it. I have seen posts on resizing-up.
Is having the ring sized down an option? Thanks in advance for your
response(s).

Math by
Limpy[_2_]
I know there's a way to do this, but I can't remember how.
I have x dwt's of sterling silver.
I want to know how much that weight of sterling will weigh in 14, 18k.
The obvious answer ain't the one I want. ;-)

choosing tools for working jasper/chalcedony/quartz by
sunrainor
Good morning,
after reading the very useful reply about grinding options, I'm asking
for help deciding how to tackle the rocks I've been picking up around
my yard and neighbourhood, here in the north of St. Lucia, West
Indies.
They are, I believe, mostly red-yellow jasper, chalcedony or...

Pin vise by
Charlie Leo
I am using a sliding pin vise for wire wrapping. The vise is a mild
steel, but it wears very rapidly against 21 gauge copper, sterling and
gold filled square wire. After about an hour's use, the vise will not
hold wire for twisting. It's not that I have one bad vise - I teach a
class and we have...

hello rcj:
I'm in the market for a grinder for my silverwork bench and trying to
sort out the various options and what's important. I only want to use
it to grind/edge/reduce silver and for some occasional tool
shaping . . . but NOT for polishing - I love using my lortone tumbler
for what I do. ...

Hello People,
This is probably a stupid question, but is it possible to make
