sewing machine advice by Betty Maxey
I currently have a Viking 535 (Lily). Got it about 5 years ago, and have had no problems with it. But- starting in maybe 6 months I will be spending a lot of weekends away from home, and I am thinking about getting a sewing machine for the other location. Or a new one for home, and the Viking...

Wonder Under/Applique Trouble by zam's mom
I'm appliquing a quilt for my ds. I used some old Wonder Under or Heat N Bond that was in the craft cabinet. It didn't stick very well when I ironed it on. Now it's gumming up the needle after about 1" of zigzag stitching. I've re-ironed it, using a hotter iron. It didn't dissolve, but it did stick...

Little happy dance by Julia in MN
Over the weekend, I finished a small wallhanging called Southwest Snowman. It will be a gift for my SIL who spends the winter in Las Vegas. It is fused applique; I stitched the pieces down when I quilted it. Picture at http://webpages.charter.net/jaccola/SouthwestSnowman.JPG. The pattern is from...

OT -- The Saga Continues by the black rose
Cut to the chase: the results of the breast MRI are finally in. They're not good. Surgeon's office is calling me tomorrow morning to schedule a biopsy. I'm completely, utterly, totally freaked. Prayers appreciated. --

Post Office Woes (mostly OT) by Cindy Schmidt
I'm still waiting for a package that was mailed in August from Holland. DS was visiting there in April/May and he left a couple of things there. Girlfriend said she would pack up and mail and she kept forgetting. So finally she mails it and who knows where it is. -- Cindy from MO

I have NOT been keeping up very well... by Kate Dicey
Very tired, so had to let Mr Mark Allread deal with over 800 quilty posts, and an equal number in other groups. The school sewing went well, but took longer than expected, and thus took more out of me than I'd allowed for. So the fibro is playing up. GRR! ARGH! I'm making Christmas cakes and...

Dratted coat hangers! by Kate Dicey
They are an invention of the devil and a force of evil in the world. No getting round it. *AND* the blighters breed when you stop watching them... A couple of months back I lost my loop turner gadget: a thing like a long stiff wire with a finger loop at one end and a tiny latched hook at the...

Help w/hand sewing needles by rusty
I'm looking for a stronger needle to use for binding. I like the diameter of the john james straw needles because the eye goes through the fabrics smoothly, but I really bend them to the point of having to trash several every time I bind a quilt! Does anyone know of another needle whose 'eye end'...

Benihanas - not sure if OT or not by Brian Christiansen
There is a local restaurant here in Tucson (so I am pretty sure that at least one other person on this list will know the place I am referring to) called Sakura's that is a retaurant where the cook comes out and cooks on a grill that is right at your table - teppan, I think it is called. Well,...

Fuzzy caterpillar- Attn: Polly by Leslie & The Furbabies in MO.
I didn't want this to get lost in the other thread. Cut three bias strips at 1/2 in. X 4 inches. Layer the strips on top of each other. Using heavy thread, gather by hand sewing down the middle- lengthwise- allowing the strips to twist as you go. At the end, pull the thread tight and knot off. ...
