help - pattern for floor length formal dress with short sleeves by AnnP
Hi, My daughter's high school band has decided that all the girls need to wear black floor length gowns for their concerts -- short sleeves, midway between shoulder and elbow. The neckline also must be discreet (not plunging). (The boys get off easy by paying $50 to rent tuxes for the year.) I...

Any machines to avoid? by ant
I had a look through google groups and couldn't see this topic having been discussed lately. I am thinking of getting my very own sewing machine. I pinch my mother's Bernina whenever the pile of alterations hits critical mass (and it has), and I like that machine very much, but they seem to be...

Got a Husqevarna! by ant[_2_]
I went to Sew Simple in Philip, Canberra, that someone recommended last week. Heaps of 2nd hand machines, but ended up going with a mildly-computerised husquevarna. They reckoned it's easy to use, and it didn't have heaps of embroidry stiches (didn't want that stuff). They're servicing it now...

Lucy (Peanuts) costume needed by [email protected]
My friend's daughter has recently been cast as Lucy in "Your A Good Man, Charlie Brown." Here's her dilemma in her words: Does anyone have any idea of where I might get one without robbing a bank, or do I need to find a pattern that still does puffed sleeves (although I don't sew! I think her...

Help with flower girl's dress by Arlinda
I am making a dress for a flower girl. I am not a professional seamstress but I have sewn many nice dresses. The fabric is a satin with just a hint of shine. It has a 'slub' design that is selvage to selvage. It is probably a dupioni (sp?). I'd say it almost looks to have a linen look....

Bubble skirts? by Arri London
Picked up last month's issue of a sewing mag published by the fabric shop/chain. Talking about prom dresses. They mentioned bubble skirts as being fashionable again. While they were around for a while in the early 90s in London, the fad didn't last long. No one ever looked good in them. So... are...

'Invisible' elastic by Arri London
Thinking of remodelling something where the elastic will show. Anyone use this stuff at all? It's sort of pricey, so don't want to waste it doing something unnecessarily stupid.

Sewing machines and table hockey by Arri London
The cats like to play table hockey after we've gone to bed. This seems to consist of chasing each other over the dining room table! Anything on the table gets knocked out of the way. Don't know how they score points though LOL Left the Pfaff on said table last night...It was on its back...

In a previous thread you mentioned a Japanese Imperial presentation coat that you made. However you didn't see/reply to my post asking exactly what that was. Is it similar to what Prime Minister Koizumi was shown wearing at his swearing-in? Like a morning...

Got a cheap pattern! by Arri London
Our local (in ABQ) Hancock's fabrics is having a sale on Simplicity patterns. They are *all* USD1.99. Don't know if this is a chainwide thing or not though. Not having bought a 'regular' pattern in years, I was shocked at the double-digit prices! Whew!
