ping Steve Graber by Susie
Hi Steve Thanks for your kind comments re dragons. You asked for more detail about the emerging dragon - what would you like to know? All this has given me the confidence to keep going along this track. Since making the Siblings I've had an outbreak (litter?) of porcelain cats. If you like...

porcelain firing by Susie Thompson
I've built something which is very, very fragile. It will finally need firing to 1250C to mature the clay - at which point I suspect that the clay will be beginning to 'soften' and not be able to take its own weight. What I need to do is to biscuit fire to a sufficiently high enough...

Used wrong cones in kiln sitter - Help by CNB
I can't believe I did this. I fire in an electric kiln. I was rushing to get in a ^6 GLAZE firing for an upcoming event and I use an 04 cone in my kiln sitter instead of cone 6. In the morning I'm going to take all the cones out and restart it but now I don't know if I should try to fire it to...

glaze freeware by DKat
Some time ago someone asked me to include a print function on the little glaze program I have. Well I finally got around to it. This is a simplified version of a glaze analysis program for those who want to dip their toes. It only works for PCs. For those who want the real thing go to (you...

Allach Porcelain displays odd socialist symbolism or markings..... by Tinny Ray
Allach Porcelain uses a logo that exposes the swastika as crossed "S" letters symbolizing "Socialism" under the monstrous National Socialist German Workers' Party. http://rexcurry.net/allach-porcelain-munich-germany-swastika-mark.html It provides additional confirmation of the amazing discoveries...

on glaze colours and lustres by Susie
I regularly use onglaze colours fired to 760C on unglazed porcelain which has been fired to 1250C. What I was wondering was if there is sufficient 'glaze base/cover' deposited by the colours to enable me to use lustres on top of them? Has anybody got any suggestions? Also, would it work if I...

Help with price of Skutt model 181 by bakerhillpins
All Working through my grandmothers estate we have a Skutt model 181 that she bought many years ago but apparently never used. Seems she kept using her Paragon A-55. We have someone who is interested in the kiln but when asked to make an offer they simply asked us what we wanted for it. Being that...

tea pot handles of other than clay by [email protected]
Hi, I want to make my own tea pot handle, not just get the bamboo ones that we see all the time. I have seen many very interesting ones in the pages of Clay times, etc, but the info about the tea pot is always about the thrown part, and not the handle. I'm just wondering if any has any suggestions...

Throwing - out of center - why? by Bubbles_
Hi Okay - I have started throwing on my wheel again. But I keep getting these LUMPS of clay that seem like they are weighted on one side, even though I have spiral wedged them for at least 10-15 minutes before splitting them up into about half-kilo pieces, making those into balls by slapping...

Sharing ideas by DKat
I posted 2 recent thoughts I had on useful tools (using toilet brushes for stirring/mixing glazes and using dehumidifier water for mixing glazes) and the moderator of clayart came back with his own tools which I really liked. I assume it is OK to share since the list is public. I just thought...

glaze gone bad by Red Deer
Hi Everyone, Can glazes go bad? I have a glaze that was real nice when it was new (two years ago). Now it seems to have gone bad. The pots with this glaze on them come out of the kiln with what looks like bubbles that have formed and burst open but never smoothed over. All the other pieces in...
