the 130F pitch trick by
Paul WIlson
Folks,
I was working with Contenti chasers pitch and gave it up for some medium
grade stuff from Northwest pitchworks. It's obviously much nicer.
It became obvious when working with it that the NW pitch became quite sticky
when hot, but not as sticky when just warm. So I did an experiment.
I...

[ADVERT] Raytech CMF-400 magnetic finisher for sale by
[email protected]
I have a Raytech CMF-400 magnetic finisher that I'd like to sell. I
hardly got any use out of it, so I thought I'd see if anyone in this
group wants it before I put it up on ebay. This is the smallest of
Raytech's top of the line finishers. Polishes a dozen rings or other
small items in around a...

Diamond Testers by
Saumya M.
Hi,
I was wanting to purchase a diamond tester and would appreciate if you
could recommend one. Budget would be up to $750.
I would also appreciate if you could explain the rationale for your
recommendation and compare and contrast between the kinds of testers
that are available.
Are there any...

2 questions by
m4816k
1. I found this on one website, so I'd like to know are these claims true?
Cubic Zirconia, contrary to public belief, can be found in the natural world
but is extremely rare. Cubic zirconia was first discovered in 1937 by two
German mineralogists but in very minute quantities. It wasn't a...

Tracking down a gem dealer by
Frosty
I have an old friend named Gabriel Steve Sloan who is a gem dealer.
I cannot find him. His mom moved from her Miami (FL) home after his
dad died and I lost touch.
The last I heard he was living in southern Mexico where he owned some
gem mines.
The only other info I have on him is that his brother,...

New to group by
gwacie
Hi there. I've been reading the list and thought I'd say hi. I'm a glass
artist (beads and larger stuff) who also does some jewelry work (wire work
and basic silver smithing). Right now I'm working on getting better at
sawing nice shapes (thereby reducing that infernal filing time!!).
Anyway, Hi!

soldering jumprings by
laura
Hi,
I need to know if it is possible for a beginner to solder jumprings that
are already attached to the jewelry?
Do I need to have really expensive tools? I am making chain earrings and Y
necklaces that I need the jumpring to be securely closed. Any help would be
appreciated. Laura

Sad news. Steven Kretchmer has died by
Peter W.. Rowe,
Those newsgroup readers in close contact with the commercial jewelry world may
well have already heard this. Today, at work, my boss had received several
emails already, and a number of clients coming in, also had heard this through
the grapevine. So this is not likely the first everyone has...

Carl-Pearl-Copper Sheet by

Hi Carl,
I've been meaning to get back and assuage your curiosity about
attaching the pearls to the earrings. Unfortunately, I became overly
curious about setting up my 'puter for "web sharing" as yours is. My
computer, although a Mac, is not a friendly creature and hates being
asked to do...

Hardening Silver ?? by
youda
Being a real beginner I don't have a clue. Sometimes I have a question and
can't find the answer on the internet or in books. This is one of those
times. I've made a thin leaf from fine silver for a pendant. The problem
is that it is soft, easily bent. Is there some way to harden silver at...
