studio vase by
zendy
hi there,
I have a studio vase in a flattened globular shape. The body has
a lovely semi grey high shine glaze - and underneath the glaze are
spectacular iridescent silver flowers or leaves in a spray type
pattern.
Quite an unusual glazing technique and very handsome in its execution.
vase has a...

clear glaze developes milky spots in place??? by
Zander
Hi all,
I'm having a hard time with a store bought clear glaze (cone 6). I bought
this glaze in powder form and mixed it myself. Since then I'm having
random problems with it, usually on big bowls with lots and lots of work
invested in them. Problem is: milky white translucent spots develop...

uneven heating in kiln and a multitude of funny glaze problems.... by
Zander
Hi all,
I just finished a glaze fire yesterday and the results were decidedly mixed.
It is an electric kiln and I am firing to cone6, it also has a downdraft
vent installed and uses a kiln sitter.
The top peep hole is the only one available as the bottom one is sealed up.
The kiln load had 4 ...

electric kiln firing questions by
Zander
Hi all,
When I was first setting up this kiln I got a lot of great advice from this
group. I've been set up for a few months now and have completed 2 firing
cycles (bisque/glaze) however, I still qualify as a complete newbie!
The kiln is an electric cylindrical kiln, 7 cu. ft. I have some...

help with kiln sitter calibration?? by
Zander
Hi All,
I've just finished installing my kiln. I completely rewired it with new
elements etc. I replaced the old tube assembly on the kiln sitter (it's a
3tk if my memeory serves - panel mount with a backup timer)
I adjusted the hook and plate on the kiln sitter according to the manual.
( so...

Zander
Hi all,
What's the deal with home insurance if you want to sell a few pots at the
odd fall fair etc? I've heard that you need some sort of commercial
something or another added to your policy. I live in canada and I've
talked to some people here about it but havn't got a definative...

Kiln Paranoia! by
Zander
Hi All,
I have just finished installing a kiln in a basement pottery studio for my
wife. I've done the best I can in terms of ventilation, safe wiring, etc.
but I'm still feeling like it's crazy to have a kiln actually in your
house.
Keep in mind I am a total newbie at this, so I have no idea...

followup to ventilation of electric kiln - fan selection by
Zander
Hi all,
I much appreciated the advice I received on venting my electric kiln. I'm
getting closer to installing my vent and I'm wondering about fan selection.
I found a Elicent inline type fan, mainly sold for greenhouse venting I
believe. It's got more than enough CFM but I'm wondering how the...

Venting of Electric Kiln question?? by
Zander
Hi All,
I'm new here and to pottery in general. My wife is a potter and I am in
the process of building her a pottery studio in our basement workshop.
This room is pretty well sealed from the rest of the house.
I have a round electric kiln. I want to find out about ventilation of this
kiln. I...
