Need speed by
Sunny[_2_]
A house burned down two nights ago. The family -- with three young
children -- barely made it to safety. Their two little dogs did not.
The home is a total loss. They have nothing, no clothes, no place to
live, nothing. I couldn't sleep last night. Got out my "kid" stash and
cut out blocks for a...

Ok, so now it's sunshine yellow. Help! by

I think the BOCES is specifically a NYS program. I've never heard of it
elsewhere, but my NY relatives have mentioned it. I am not even sure what
the acronym means, but get the gist that it is an adult education program.
For the dye problem, I'd suggest checking with a weavers guild (or shop)...

Baklava... by
Brian Christiansen
I tried my hand at making some today with this recipe:
http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/alton-brown/baklava-recipe/index.html .
Cutting and layering the phyllo dough is a bit fussy, but I got decent at it
with a bit of practice. The final step, putting the honey-syrup over the
layered...

OT the Christmas joke; Plan B by
Polly Esther[_5_]
Jo always follows my truly awful Christmas joke with her own. I can't seem
to get her attention; all she's doing is carrying a baby and remodeling -
how hard is that?
Anyhow.
We need a volunteer. Who will find Jo's precious joke about the rain in
Russia and follow me?

OT snow by
Polly Esther[_5_]
I wish somebody would unearth that precious tale about the guy who had just
moved into snow country and did a daily journal of how he was weathering.
And, in the next couple of weeks I suppose I could entertain the newbies
with my truly awful annual Christmas joke if anybody insists, or we can...

Ok, so now it's sunshine yellow. Help! by
Sartorresartus
The short story runs:
Quilt Museum are doing a Celtic Exhibition after Christmas.
They found out ('cos I told them) that I have quilts made by my Great
Auntie from Wales.
They decided it would be a lovely idea to have a quilt with a history
for visitors to feel.
I offered a couple of hers that are...

GeoBear went shopping by
DiMa[_2_]
Hi all,
GeoBear went shopping today and he encouraged me to purchase some really
lovely material for one of my next projects. He was invited to go to a LQS
and browse and of course, I had to browse too and purchase more material and
a pattern.
He is napping now from his big day out.

A Finished Project! by
Louise in Iowa[_2_]
It feels like it's been a long time since I said that! My DSIL asked me
to make a wallhanging for her brother for Christmas. She'd seen the Dale
Earnhardt quilt I'd made my stepson, and thought that would be great for
her brother. I finished it last night, and I have a couple of pictures
in my...

OT great gift under $10 by
Polly Esther[_5_]
You know how it is at the LQS when you spy something on the 'reduced' table.
It just jumps in your buggy and follows you home.
Mine was a yard of Michael Miller glow in the dark sort of white cotton.
I made a pillowcase with our 5 year-old great niece's name appliquéd in
balloon letters on...

Covering a bad backing? by
Edna Pearl
I have finished machine quilting a twin-size quilt, and the front of it
looks pretty good. The back is a mess. I'm considering the possibility of
sewing another, unquilted backing over the messy one. I can imagine this
might cause differential shrinkage problems down the road? Would I need...

Thanks all,
I went out and bought some 'pebble beige' and plonked the yellow back
in the washer. I now have a rather doody old gold. Just the right
shade. I thought is was going to go a bit green, but it's stayed just
this side now it is washed and dried. The blue is probably a little
pale,...

Last night was the Annual Christmas Party for my VRQ Bee. We had snacks and

'K, I have been asked if I can do a thing, and I am not sure.
I've got a lady here who keeps buying made in china down comforters,
and the fabric and stitching goes all to heckies very quickly.
Since she is sick of leaking feathers, she wants to know if I can take
a new down comforter, and use it...
