Need info about soldering / setting stones in mokume gane. by
Chris
I have some sheet mokume gane from Reactive Metals.
I need to solder jump rings to the sterling backing of the sheet.
Should I apply patina to the mokume gane before soldering, or
after?
I've heard that the patina wears off easily. Is there any
treatment to make it more durable?
I also need...

bracelets by
Mr G H Ireland
While "surfing", I came across some bracelets made by a Dutch man named
van Heeckeren. (see Google and the name)
He describes them as hollow, constructded, sterling Silver. He wants a
fantastic price,e.g.$A 6000/pair for them and I wonder,
a) how, actually they were made, and
b) who would buy...

Aquamarine Prices by
[email protected]
I just purchased a ring for my wife to commemorate our 3rd child.
Since we have two March babies, the ring has two 5mm aquamarine
stones. The jewler charged $400 each, saying they are AAA quality.
This seems high...does $400/ea for aquamarine sound right?
Thanks.

Looking for a Norwegian pendant by
Evert
Hi all!
A friend of mine has this pendant:
http://photo.meulie.net/v/various/pendant/Pendant.jpg.html
She bought it many years ago somewhere in a Norwegian tourist shop.
Now she would very much like to have more of these pendants.
Who knows any online store that sells this precise pendant?

how to clean silver with yellow tinge by
[email protected]
I have a nacklace (not made by myself but from Lapponia :

I have bought this 5 years ago and it has a slight yellow tinge.
I am reluctant to clean it with sulfuric acid (which I normally do

pigment for porcelain
Any suggestions on a pigment to give an off-white or slightly brownish tint
to a porcelain (about 1200 degf) that uses titanium oxide for white? A
source for small quantities would be helpful too.

What's with this new platinum? by
Frosty
I had to finish, size and set a platinum ring alloyed with cobalt.
I really don't like the color or the way it works.
And the damned crap is magnetic fer Pete's sake!
Who thinks these things up? Stuller?
Jeez!

Soldering palladium by
lemel_man
I seem to recall reading that its not a good idea to solder palladium
with an oxy/hydrogen flame, but I can't find the article anywhere. I use
oxy/hydrogen for platinum and would like to use it for Pd too. Does
anyone have actual experience with this please?

u-channel or rectangular tubing by
MatthewK
I'm looking for a u-channel that is 1/8 x 1/2 x .040 or close. I want
bronze, but brass or steel will do. I've searched everything I have, and
the internet. It seems like a very odd size, if I could find rectangular
tubing an cut off a side that would be great.
I've been thinking of ways to make...

Buying a prop-ox torch setup by
C0nnie
Hi all.
This is probably my first post here. I recognize a few names here from
elsewhere. I have a question that many of you know at least some
answers to.
I am ready to buy a torch, hotter than my butane one at home. I have
had the opportunity to solder at the Crucible in Oakland CA where I
just...
