"ned ware"?? by pbhj
I was chatting to someone about a beautiful red-glazed piece which had veins of a purple glaze sprayed on ... I swear they said it was "ned ware". I didn't have my wits about me at the time and so didn't ask "what's that??". Any clues, did I miss-hear? Thanks, pbhj

expansivity data - excel, burns or byrnes slips by pbhj
Hi all ... As I've mentioned I'm running a paint-your-own pottery studio. A local potter (Newport, UK) is making up some items for us (bisqued mugs) which we want to glaze with the rest of our stock (mainly Gare bisquefire, some CountryLoveCeramics items too). Trouble is getting the body and...

glazing of un-known pot? by pbhj
A friend has posed me a question on glazing (or at least preserving) a pot that they threw themselves at some place in Poole (UK) several years ago. I'm wondering about what my options are. I'm pretty new to pottery so any advice is welcome. My initial instinct is that in order to glaze the...

photographs on pottery by pbhj
I run a contemporary ceramic cafe in Newport, South Wales. I've done some internet research into laying down photographically produced images on to our pottery pieces (we don't make our own pots but buy in slip cast bisque-ware). Anyway from what I can tell theres been some research into printing...

Glaze defect after decal application, why? by pbhj
Hey everybody ... no it's not Dr.Nick, but hey anyway. I've got some defects on some glazed ware after decal application and was wondering if anyone can help diagnose what I've done? I used ^04 (cone-0-4) bisqued plates which were glazed with a Gare 1700D clear glaze. The ware was fine, as...

Heat Work Problem by pete
Last week we did a 1280 firing mainly for tile tests. The kiln has had 14 firings so it should be at its optimum. I use a fairly good controller which, the suppliers tell me, is very accurate. On this occasion we also used cones 8,9 & 10 to test heatwork. The result was that all three cones were...

Kiln Cart? by Pete Snell
Hi All; Has anyone here ever built a cart to move a kiln around? Space is getting to be at a premium in the shop, and I'd like to be able to move the smaller kiln into an out of the way spot when not in use. I don't want to wheel it across the back yard or anything like that, just want to be able...

Studio heat source by Pete Snell
Hi All I'm designing a small studio addition for my SO's pottery studio. It'll be about 12' by 22'. I'm trying to decide on a heat source for it. Fuel will probably be natural gas. What do you use? I'm thinking it's probably good to use a source that doesn't blow air around, but I'm not sure how...
