Kiln Elements by
Kevin Baldwin
How long could I reasonably expect my kiln elements to last. So far I have
fired
23 bisque firings upto 1000'C
12 eathenware firings upto 1150'C
18 stoneware firings upto 1265'C
I have noticed that at stoneware temperatures I have to be very careful not

pottery as art therapy by
Marmaj40
I have a teenage boy neighbor who has a tumor on his spinal cord. He is home a
few weeks from his second surgery. He has a lot of pain, and I have offered to
go over with clay to see if some clay therapy will help him with his pain
management. My question is because I am not a teacher, what would...

onglaze medium by
roz lacey
I plan to venture into the world of 'onglaze' painting. The books I have,
go on about all the various oils required to use as a medium. The pottery
suppliers I go to, have said that oils are only necessary for the onglaze
stains that contain gold, (i.e. purple etc) and sold me a tub of their...

Hardness of bisque based on drying time by
John Rigler
I recently read on the back of a bag of grout that we should be
spritzing it with water so that it cures at a slower rate. Does the
same stand true for drying clay bodies? If I figure out the fastest way
to get a piece of clay to greenware without it cracking or warping, will
the bisque...

Help! Asbestos! by
Alex Hargreaves
Hi,
I've been trying to sell my kiln a large Hymus 3M 2 phase kiln. However
i found out from one of the engineers i was trying to sell it to that the
panels are made from asbestos. No immediate threat to my health unless i
attack it with a hammer but it explains why no-one will touch it. Have I...

firing speed by
Richard
I have an electric kiln and bisque fire to cone 04 on slow speed, and glaze
fire to cone 6 (also slow). Is it really necessary to bisque fire on slow?
I understand the reason for glaze firing on slow speed, but not bisque.
Thanks
Betsy

Why #112? by
Bubbles
Hi again - again! Hehe!
Last question for tonight!
I have been reading through the group, and find that many of you have
problems with clay #112, still several of you still insist on using it. I'm
not being fresh, here, mind you - I am just very curious as to why such a
problematic clay still...

Starting up a CO-OP by
dkat
Our University is becoming worse each passing day in the way it treats the
pottery studio. I am thinking of trying to convince the President to let us
form a Co-Op that offers classes to students and staff, is located on the
campus but that is to some degree independent. Does anyone have any...
