ivory? by
BettyPego
Sometime, in the 70s, when I visited my son at Berkeley, I purchased a little
carved ivory pendant in SanFrancisco's China Town.
Is it legal to sell this on eBay (or any place).
If it is, what can I do with it, except give it away?
For those who remember me, a fat old woman, at 77 I had my first...

Reporting fraudlent sales of fake gems? by
mjoann
Hello,
Here's my question... A lot of times I see synthetic items being sold as
genuine on e-Bay. Sometimes, I am absolutely sure of it, because the
sellers use the pictures directly off the wholesaler's website. Because
I sell jewelry as well, I recognize these items from the wholesale
catalogs I...

the best glue? by
Glitterati
A couple of rhinstones have fallen off my favourite broach, and I'm
wondering what the best way of repairing it is. The actual broach is
some sort of silvery metal (it's not silver I don't think, bc there's
a goldish color showing through where the silver paint (?) has peeled
away.) I was initially...

Art Clay Silver and Glass by
www.hussydesigns.com
Some of you already know that my background is in polymer clay. I've
only recently entered the mesmerizing world of glass via a lampworking
setup. That necessitated buying a kiln and well, it's all been
downhill from there. Now I have Art Clay Silver (along with some
pottery clay) and I want to...

Cutting a jade ring by
Tasha
Hi,
I wonder if anyone can help me - I've recently bought a ring from a
Chinese source which was claimed to be made of black 'agate jade'. I'd
like to get a hole cut in it, in order to customise it as a special
gift for a friend. I gather that we're talking about a pretty hard
substance here, but...

Lost or stolen jewelry searchable datbase? by
Jerry
Hi All,
Anyone know of an URL/web address for a searchable database for lost or
stolen jewelry like the pawn shops seem to have? Or is that a downloaded
file?
Typing "stolen jewelry" as a search turned up a bunch of news stories
about cops recovering stuff and stories about busted thieves but not...

Do any of you sell Swarovski crystal beads? by
SoulAskew
I am wondering if these:
http://www.gspncrystals.com/swarovskibeads5000.htm
are competitive wholesale prices for Swarovski crystal beads. If not,
do any of you sell them for less? I am looking to buy.
Thanks!

second hand certified gemstones by
m4816k
Is it my imaginations or second hand jewellery with certified gemstones
(especially diamonds) keeps a great deal of it's value (if not damaged),
even when resold. I saw some second hand diamond rings with price tags very
close to those of new ones. I heard a theory that diamonds practically...

Alloying sterling silver? by
Vanessa Boscia
Hi!
I've just tried to alloy some sterling silver for the first
time. Seems like it should be easy right?
Melted 31.1g of fine silver with 2.5g of 99.95 pure copper (I analyzed it at
work). Both metals were cleaned in acid then washed off in water first.
I'm using a propane / O2 torch and stirred...

very small gloat - from a beginner by

G'Day,
In australia I've found it very difficult to find jewellery books within the
price range of my budget. Imagine my joy at finding a wonderful book "Hand
made Jewellery" by Louis Weiner published 1948 for $20 AUD (less than $15
USD).
I'm only a quarter the way through reading it, but it is a...

lapidary combo saw / grinder unit - help! by

Hi all
I'm working on reconditioning a Beacon Star combination
saw/grinder/polisher unit - which has seen better days.
In order to replace the two grinding wheels, it seems to be necessary
to remove the two shaft bearings so that the grinding wheels can be
slid off the shaft.
Has anybody done...
