Backstitching by
Marie Dodge[_3_]
Do you backstitch when piece quilting? Do you ever find threads coming
loose when you don't?

Anne Rogers[_3_]
I rarely look on craigs list, but today I did, I found this
http://seattle.craigslist.org/oly/hsh/562575869.html, a singer straight
stitch only machine from 1953, it looks fantastic.
Cheers

OT Grouply Don't use by
Kate T.
hey Everyone
I've been reading, lately, in other quilting group sites, that anyone
using "grouply" in their e-mail addy will not be permitted into the
group or will be deleted from the groups without notice.
Apparently this "Grouply" is advertising that you can group all your
memberships into...

OT - Directory test emails by
Karen, Queen of Squishies
All the Directory test emails have been sent out, and I only had one bounce
so far, which I am working on. Check your email, and if you are pretty sure
you should have gotten one, please email me. But please remember, not
everyone who applied is able to be in this one. But we certainly want...

fabric in Korea? by
Roberta Zollner
I'm going to a conference in Seoul at the end of the month. Any tips for
fabric shopping? My anti-jet lag plan is to spend the rest of the arrival
day buying silk and anything else that looks good -should keep me awake
until dinner time!

One of my groups had a sewing bee week-end before last and they had a
joint project you could do if you wanted. If you got the top made, it
had to be at least 36" by 36". If you posted your picture by last
night (Sun) you got entered in a contest. I have more to do to it but
I got the...

I got the software. by
John
I got the Quilt-Pro v5 software and loaded it up on my mac, and at
first glance, it seems to be quite sophisticated and will probably
provide endless hours of diversion and help. It has a lot of sample
fabrics from a lot of the major fabric purveyors so it should provide
plenty of design...

Our local show by
Sandy
The show here opened today, and I was so surprised! I'd entered four
quilts, thinking that one particular one of them might have a chance at
a ribbon, but probably none. The one I thought had a chance didn't win.
*But*! Two others won second place ribbons! I'd never have thought
they'd win,...

shrunken featherbed by
ward376
I hope someone can answer or refer me to somewhere where I can get an
answer...
The cleaners shrunk my featherbed by approximately 19% - it was
60"x80" when I dropped it off and 54"x72" when I picked it up. They
offered to "block" it to return it to it's original size. I had my
doubts, and I was...

frames for basting by
Anne Rogers[_3_]
I've been reading an older book in machine quilting and it highly
recommends the frame method of basting a quilt. I have vague memories
that John has done it this way, but other than that, it seems a method
that has gone out of fashion.
My reading of the instructions seems to be that you don't...

Removing smoke smell by
Ginger in CA
I just received a pattern from an auction on eBay. "Just Beachy" by
Karen Stone. Apparently it came from a smoking environment. I am
allergic to cigarette smoke.
Does anyone have any ideas what to do with this pattern so I can use it???
Thanks in advance,
Ginger in CA

Mother's Day UK by
Lizzy Taylor
I know in the past there have been comments that knowing when Mother's
Day will be in the UK would be useful. Well I can assure you that in
2008 it is on Sunday 2nd March - i.e. 3 weeks today. That means I have
just one week to finish DMILs gift before she goes away to visit her
daughter in...

Sales people grrr! by

DD1 has taken an interest in quilting these past couple of years, but
hasn't really had the time to go at it, holding down jobs with serious
overtime, personal problems up the yin yang, and what have you.
Now she's a bit at loose ends. She is living with a fella, minding his
kids when he has them,...

I had my first lesson yesterday and was very disappointed.
The class started at 6.00pm I got there at 5.30 to meet the instructor and
to make sure that I had brought everything, SM, fabric, cutting board, ect.
I showed her the photo of the quilt I wanted to make, she told me that it
