Ring settings by
Shannon
Hi there.
I need some help. I've recently become the owner of a half-dozen
beautiful gemstones that I would like to have set in rings. Can anyone
recommend a good website/catalog that has good prices on the settings
(without stones)? Every search I do on the internet seems to turn up
engagement...

Am I paying the right price for this diamond? by
Eric
Let me quickly couch this...I am a total novice to diamond buying.
That being said:
3.02 carat, radiant cut, d, SI1 (not sure about the quality of the
cut, ideal, premium, good, etc.) being quoted $25K for the diamond.
Good price?

Advice regarding soldering equipment by
Raane
I've been learning more & more about jewelry design and construction
and am falling in love with the process. I've been using an acetylene
torch (no oxygen mix) at the local arts center, but I'm getting
serious enough to want to set up a studio at home.
What gas and equipment do I want to use? ...

Can some gemstones be glued together? by
George
Have a look at my ring photo at the link below, please.
http://tinyurl.com/2td39
I would like to somehow bond two different gemstones inside one ring.
It doesn't have to be the colors or stones in the photo. It is the
concept that interests me. Can it be done? If so, what kind of glue
would you...

Length of a string of pearls by
Dan
I have a small double string or pearls I want to sell on Ebay, but I'm
not
sure what the convention is for describing the length of a string. With
the
clasp open, from end to end, the double strand measures 17.5". I'm
guessing
this is the length to give in the listing, but since when worn...

Q: Carving Crisp Channels in Green Wax by
Galileo
Hello Group,
I am working on "engraving" a fine pattern into a wax model for a
wedding band. The design is made up of more or less even width
grooves about 0.020" wide and 0.020" deep. I find that if I am
careful with a #6 graver I can get decent straight grooves, but
sweeping arcs are very...

Etching solution by
Beelzebub
I gather that nitric or hydrochloric acids are used for etching silver.
Could someone please give me an idea of what concentration we're talking
about here?
Cheers.

Mexican 'silver' coins by
Andy Parker
I have been asked to repair a bracelet made from Mexican coins dated
1883 to 1891. They are all 5 cent pieces bearing the legend
MoM 902.7 (or OoS 902.7) 5 centavos on one side and REPUBLICA
MEXICANA with the date and an eagle holding a snake on the other.
These appear to be silver, anybody know...

Creating very light hollow metal ornaments by
Marin
I wanted to create very light hollow metal ornaments that could float
by the buoyancy of the air inside. I wanted to use metal because some
parts of the object would need to withstand an ambient temperature of
about 100-150 degrees celsius. I figured a good thickness for the
metal would be about...

Engagement ring question -- Help! by
Artifax
Hello
I was looking at a ring with a 0.5 carat diamond, E color, slightly
included. They want 2000 for the rock, with 500 for the ring (white
gold, 24 carat). This is at Wempe and in Europe.
I have a few questions:
-Does anybody know if this is a reasonable price for a diamond of this
carat and...
