London area clay group needed by
Clayslinger
May I ask.....
Is this London in England or here in Ontario???
I am a member of the London Potters Guild (Ontario Canada) and could point
her in the right direction.

Seeley's Mystery Kiln by
Tapper
I have been given a Seeley's SOK66 table-top kiln (aboit 18" high). Does anyone know anyihing about these? The temp knob says LOW-1-2-MED-4-5-HIGH, and the label says the max temperature is 2300. I'd like to know what the equivalent code temperatures are for the knob.
I emailed Seeley's a month...

Reglazing by
sandi
I reglazed a few pots once. There is a product called APT II, and when a
few drops are mixed with your glaze, it thickens the glaze enough so that it
sticks on your pot. It takes a lot longer for the glaze to dry on the pot
and a few of the pots turned out ok but I wasn't thrilled with the...

Firing Tmes by
David Coggins
Hi Pete,
There are about as many firing cycles as there are glaze recipes. There is
no definitive answer, but have a look at my website
www.users.bigpond.com/dcoggins
for a few pointers.
Bisque temps for pottery are specified by the clay suppliers, usually at
least 1000C but not too high, as the...

humidiity control by
sandi
Hello to all,
Does anyone know if it would be detrimental to my leather hard , trimmed
pots to put them in a room with a dehumidifier turned on to help dry them
before bisque firing?
Thanks,
Sandi

do it yourself pyrometer using a palm pilot or computer? by
Bri
Hello All:
I discovered the lookup sheets for voltage output of a type K T/C wire
and I would like to use that data on my palm pilot or computer so I
could have a digital pyrometer with tracking and print capabilities.
Unfortunately I am too ignorant to program so I was wondering if anyone
has come...

cracked bottoms by
sandi
Hi All,
Does anyone know why the bottoms of some of my bowls get S cracks on them?
I make them all the same but maybe one out of ten will get that crack. I
compress the inside bottom while throwing and when trimming the bottom. It
seems to happen after they are all finished while they are...

Electric kiln switches by
wayneinkeywest
Does anyone know if it is possible to replace three position
switches in an electric kiln with the infinitely variable type?
Seems it would make ramping and soaking a bit easier.
(No, I haven't called my kiln mfgr yet. Trying for some
background info here first.)
TIA,

Can I fire a glazed ^05 or 04 with a bisque load of stoneware? Somewhere in my
memory that is a no-no, but wanted to see for sure from the group.

Are any of these too old to use? by
GaSeku
I bought a used kiln that came with the following. There was an old receipt
included among all the goodies so I know there materials are from 1996. Some
are in bags and some are in jars. My question is, are they good or should I
replace any of them before trying my hand at making my own glazes?...

Slow vs Fast by
Doug Porter
I have an Olympic 2827 with Controller. The controller has 4
preprogrammed firing schedules---slow/fast bisque, slow/fast glaze.
I've done my own programming for the bisque firing (mainly on the slow
side) but was wondering what the difference is in the glaze firing.
Why would one choose fast over...

Flameware claybody by
Deborah M Riel
Has anyone worked with flameware claybody? I just started a class in
this last night, and I'm pretty excited about it. Any hints for best
handling this clay? It seems to be softer, stickier, and at the same
time grittier than the stoneware I'm used to. I found it difficult to
pick up my pots...

Looking for Information by

Hello!
I'm looking to pick up a hobby that I can do with my hands and that is
artistic, after a few days of reading, thought, and pondering my interest
level, I narrowed it down to pottery and blacksmithing. Strangely,
regardless of how artistic the end product is, I really don't think...
