Latest handspun by WoolyGooly
Hi y'all. Here's a photo of a hank of handspun I finished on Monday. It is a 3-ply yarn: two plies of space-dyed superwash merino, one ply of black merino/silk for strength and to make the stuff go farther. I ended up with just shy of 500yd of yarn, now I have to decide if I want to make a skinny...

Wood: Yew do it? by
Maybe? But, bamboo *does* do it!. It turns out that commercial bamboo needles in sizes ~ US #4 - #6 do have a spring constant that is suitable for use with a knitting sheath or pouch. This opens up a world of fast and easy knitting for those of you that like looser fabrics. With # 4 *aluminum*...

Catskill Merino Yarn by Alison
I was in Manhattan yesterday and stopped by the Greenmarket. There was a vendor there selling Catskill Merino Yarn, dyed with natural dyes. I bought 2 skeins of indigo-dyed yarn and am thinking I'll make mittens out of them. It's pretty much worsted weight and a lovely soft blue. Alison

Sunday morning, 4 Feb by WoolyGooly
Today I'm dyeing 2oz bundles of Romney roving. I plan to spin froghair and ply two contrasting colors with black wool/silk for sock yarn. It is obvious to me that I'm not supposed to be knitting right now. I can't maintain a consistent gauge (witness the sweater planned as a 45" chest that...

knit-to-crochet conversion by Amber

knitting in color, need a good book by Spike Driver
A friend out of our area asked me what is a good book to get to learn how to knit in color, 3 or more colors. I was lucky and had a close relative that knitted many items in several or more colors I have not seen any that show how to carry the yarn in the back and etc. Any good...

appology by
Recently, I said some bad things about bamboo needles. I must apologize. The SPN bamboo that came in this morning had a nice finish on them. I cut them down, and trimmed them into nice 12.5" bamboo DPN. Then, I drilled out a knitting sheath to fit these US size 5 needles, and now I have a...

Today was sunny and 70f so I set up my dyepots. I got quite a bit of spinning done too - I will eventually finish the black wool/silk blend and be able to move on to some of these: http://www.fysh.org/~slinky/pix/feb_dyejobs.jpg Purple and OMGYELLOW are from Sunday's efforts, the others are...

Almost half-price Noro Silver Thaw, that is. I have been in love with this particular sweater since I first saw it (it's the one in the big picture on the page): http://tinyurl.com/35bnvv So I bought the pattern book at one of my not-so-local yarn shops and went in search of the yarn; part of...

Question for you spinners by [email protected]
Hi everyone: I had an idea the other day, but I will need some help from someone that spins. My older son (the one in the Marines) left his dog with me while he is gone. It is a beautiful dog- part chocolate lab and part spaniel. We're having a freak heat wave this week- it actually got up to...

Slipper soles by Allison
I have been looking for a source for soles for knitted or crocheted slippers -- probably suede I'm thinking -- but the resources I'm seeing show them at over $12 a pair... or about $9 for some non-leather ones. I need them to be non-slip. And I can't pay that much money for little...

Just wanted to let you know that I got my calendar. SO far, it looks good. I probably won't buy it next year, though, unless I can get it before 2008. There are many nice patterns so far, so I am pleased. I did tell you that I would let you know how I felt about it. Higs, Katherine

So.... A Strange Request by Abigail Palmer
So, today a friend of mine asked me to knit him something a little weird, and I was wondering if there was anyway there was already a pattern in existence, as that would make making it easier. Anybody know of a pattern for a Sports Coat... a blazer? A little weird, but I think it would be...

sock help by Pepper Stevens
hello, have been lurking for a bit now and have enjoyed the knitting, yarns, dye colors, and conversation. You've built a cozy place here. A smidgeon about me- I live in the PNW in the US. I walk the edge in my health care career and use art as an outlet to unwind. I used to jokingly say it was...
