Slip Casting Slips by
anna
Looks like I will have to take a few weeks (months? the chiropractor
says three months, hopefully it won't be that long) off from working on
the wheel as my back heals (involved in a little fender-bender last
weekend, minor back injuries). So, since I'm not about to give up clay
while I get...

baking stones by
Shaun Ginsbourg
How do you make a baking stones?
I read it is a quarry tile (unglazed clay). I suspect they are susceptable
to breaking if they're not made properly.
Does anyone know a reliable method or should I give up and buy one?

ceramic paella pan by
richard
I found a recipe that requires a paella pan. Since my wife is a potter I was
thinking of asking her to make one that would fit the inside our Big Green
Egg (ceramic smoker) with handles that go "up" instead of "out". Does
anyone know if paella pans must be metal or any drawbacks to a...

Fred
Words cannot describe the incredible rush I got when I opened the kiln after
the first glaze test firing of my pottery experience!
Thanks to the good advice I got from this NG, I felt almost competent going
in. Also, again from someone's comment here, I discovered "Mastering Cone 6
Glazes," got a...

Cracks already when nearing bone dry? help! by
Bubbles
I have a piece I have spent hours on. It is now almost bone dry, though I am
holding it back. It is showing small cracks at the bone dry stage. What
should I do so the cracks don't make trouble for me???

Anyone know anything about Kelsch pottery wheels? by
[email protected]
Hi, everyone! I was recently given a lovely (heavy!!) old kickwheel.
It looks to me like it's got a steel frame, cast iron flywheel and
aluminum head. On the underside of the head it says "KELSCH". Has
anyone ever heard of this manufacturer? I'm just curious. I haven't
successfully Googled any...

Looking for a glaze color by
Fred
I need a glaze recipe for a very deep midnight blue and also a dark forest
green, both in gloss for cone 6 stoneware. They will be used on stoneware
that will most likely be exposed to the weather.
I've been working with "Mastering Cone 6 Glazes" with good results, but am
too green myself to know...

My first home-firing! by
Bubbles
Hi everyone!
I got a little top-loading kiln for my birthday (spoiled, I am!) and did my
first firing to 1050 degrees C this weekend. It was a mixed bisque and glaze
firing and went very well.
I have a couple of questions, though:
One of my pots was making little "crackling" sounds hours after...

Pottery Barn and delivery fees by

It seems that there is an issue with additional delivery charges on
catalogue orders from the Pottery Barn. Apparently these additional fees on
home delivery may not be required. If you go to
http://www.lawyersandsettlements.com/case/pottery_barn
there is the information on this as well as what can...

Fermenting Crock by
Dick Adams
I just received three 100 year old Fermenting Crocks. They are 10-1/8"
high, 6" in diameter, 1/2" thick sides, and weigh 5 lbs. It does not
appear that they have been used in the last 40 years so filthy is an
appropriate description.
For those unfamiliar, these crocks are used to pickle...

Alligator glazes by
Tim Gaul
Has anyone used the Alligator Glazes by Amaco? It's confusing to look
in their catalog--the blues look brown (?) and generally it's hard to
tell exactly what you might get if you order.
I'm looking for a good two-tone-y or variegated blue and a green.
If any one can answer--thank you very much. ...
