Hi Folks, For folks who might see this, my pottery project that you all helped me with came out GREAT! It went for way more than I expected at the auction and the 5th graders had a wonderful time helping. It looks like this list is totally taken over by people who don't have their own lists. ...

Glaze mismatch by Sue Roessel Dura
Hi Folks! My sister wanted a bright red pot and I don't have a good cone 6 red. I noticed that a mojica red that I had to go over white at cone 6 claimed to come out at cone 05 as plain red so I tried it in a bisque firing. It was very pale over the white at cone 6. Now I have a beautiful red...

Disaster by Sue Roessel Dura
I made a horse on special order and it slumped against another pot so they are glazed together - his front leg to the vase's belly. Is there any way I can seperate them at least to save the horse! Best, Sue

New elements? by Sue Roessel Dura
Hi Folks, My firing times are increasing and the final ramp temperatures are falling below those programmed so I'm thinking it's time for new elements. Since this will be the first new set since I bought the kiln, do you have any helpful advise for me? Thanks! Sue -

Olympic Kiln relay failure problems by Sue Roessel Dura
I have an Olympic Kiln model 2723E (electric) that is about three years old. It has been through about 100 or so firing cycles and yesterday suddenly two of the three electric relays failed. Has anyone else ever encountered relay failures like this? It seems like the relays should last longer than...

Repairing bisque prior to glazing? by Susan Lawton
I think someone posted an answer to this a while back, but I am unable to find the post... I work with poured ceramics, and I have a purely decorative piece which broke cleanly in two during firing. I want to complete the piece by glazing it, and I cannot remember the 'recipe' for the repair...

on glaze colours and lustres by Susie
I regularly use onglaze colours fired to 760C on unglazed porcelain which has been fired to 1250C. What I was wondering was if there is sufficient 'glaze base/cover' deposited by the colours to enable me to use lustres on top of them? Has anybody got any suggestions? Also, would it work if I...

refiring old pots by Susie
I have just bought an old chamber pot made by Royal Doulton for not a lot of money. I'd love to use it as a planter, but the glaze has crazed, but not too badly I'm thinking that it's cast earthenware, with a plain white glaze and no decorations of any kind.. What would happen if I popped it...

craft or fine art or what? by Susie
I don't know if I'm going to open up a hornets' nest - whether it be craftily or in a fine art style. Please, where does the line - if indeed there is one - come between the two? This afternoon I was told that my work drops firmly into the craft category, yet in the past it's been accepted...
