that his grandfather had taught him to play crib and he "longed" for a board
.... and he also admired my "celtic" knots" so I combined the two. there's a
spot made on the side to hold the pegs out of site. It's got a...

Rich
I am looking for Butternut Carving Blocks.
I have bought some at Retail Wood Craft type stores, but it always has alot
of worm holes. I bought some from a vendor in Tenn. that had very clean,
non -wormhole stuff.
So far the best deal I have found is 3" x 3" x 12" for $7.50 a piece.

contributed to this group), and have decided to try my hand at hand
engraving. I've tried a bit of this in the past using my trusty Dremel
but would now...

chip carving tools by
Joseph Handy
I would like to get started learning chip carving. What would you recommend
for equipment and books to get started with. I prefer to get excellent
quality tools up front rather than upgrade later on. Any suggestions you can
make will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Primative Animal Carving Pattern by
Neillarson
I have seen these fairly primative carvings of animals, a lot of cows
and sheep, but alos a full noahs arc. I have never seen any paterns
for them.
There is not a lot of detail in the carvings, but detail is supplied
thru the paint.
Any ideas where i can find something like this?

whittling with utility knives by
BL
Would someone please help solve a debate? For basic whittling
(chains, letter openers from basswood), is a utility knife more
dangerous to the hands than a bought whittling knife? By "utility
knife", I mean the plastic units with the snap-off blade sections.
Opinions from experienced...

Hi all,
I'm trying to carve a simple, hand-powered "helicopter" that consists of
a horizonal rotor w/ a hole in the middle, in which a vertical shaft is
attached, round in section and a little smaller in diameter than a
pencil. When you spin the shaft rapidly between your palms, I've seen

Chain Saw Carving by
David Bennett
In an effort to generate more activity in this group besides spamming, how
about a discussion on chain saw carving. Has anyone here ever tried it? I
understand chain saws are quite dangerous in the wrong hands (isn't
everything?)
and certain kinds of bars are used for carving. I found it difficult...

best size to mill basswood for carvers by
Bruce H
I have some basswood logs to mill up and I was thinking of saving them
for carvers. What is a good utility dimension for this group. I was
thinking of
6 X 8 X 48 inches. I would anchor seal the ends and sticker them on a
pallet in my barn. How does 6 X 8 sound? I need to stay uniform for
the...
