Need instructions for kiln use by
Karen
Someone gave me a massive kiln. It stands about 4' high and is about 4'
square. It has a kiln-sitter control. The outside is metal with a hinged
lid mechanism. I have no idea how to use it. Please direct me to a website
or something for instructions. I thought about selling it and buying a...

I design and produce a line of unique mini glass molds to use with
glass frit or powdered glass. They have an open design which allows
them to heat up and cool off very evenly. They're very easy to use and
the results are very professional looking. If you'd like to see the

ceramic wine cooler by
richard
Are ceramic wine coolers glazed both inside and out? Most of the terra
cotta ones I've seen aren't glazed at all. I've recently seen several in
ads hat appear to be glazed both inside and out but wonder how they would
chill the wine. I'm thinking about glazing only the top 1-2 inches of...

Choice of slab rollers by
Stuart & Kathryn Fields
After reading lots and lots about the many s-r s out there, I've narrowed my
pics to Northstar vs Bailey -- 24", standard models. Can't find any real
user notes about the Northstar with its nylon gears. This equipment will
not be my main worker and I'm not going into great production, so the...

getting started at home by
[email protected]
I'd like to get started making pottery at home. I enjoyed my class on
pottery when I was in high school, but they never taught us the ins and
outs of finding electric wheels, kilns, the different types of clays
and glazes, and where to find all the supplies for making it at home.
If anybody can be...

About 15 months ago I had to put away my pottery tools and wheel and as the
new year arrives the time has come to start again and I'm finding that my
wheel is not as smoothe as it use to be. I have a four year old Brent C. It
has been in my unheated/ unairconditioned garage most of that time. I...

Layering Opaque Glazes by
John Rigler
I am trying to do a test where I put down a layer of black glaze or
underglaze and then put a layer of white on top of it and have it appear as
if the black weren't there at all. This is the most extreme case of a
completely opaque glaze covering something below it. I am doing all my
tests with a...

Has anybody here played with PMC (precious metal clay ) yet? I just got a kit for Christmas and have been reading through all the literature. I opted not to get an expensive mini kiln just yet, but got what they call a "hot pot." Cute little pot, like 2 bisque flower pots (sort of) lined with...

Need a place in South Florida to pour, fire, etc. by

Hello, all, I'm not a potter - rather a librarian doing a research
question.
My patron has a mold that he has made himself for a ceramic mug. He
lives in South Florida. He's looking for a place where he can pour the
(whatever it's called) into the mold, fire it, glaze it, etc. As I
said, I...

And speaking of bisque and green glaze firing by
DKat
I have some pieces that were meant for a pit fire. They have been burnished
so if I fire them with my regular bisque (which I generally fire to cone 06)
then they are going to lose their shine. What do you all think of bisque
firing everything at the lower cone 010 (or even try pushing it to...

Slab Question by
S P A C E M A N
I've been looking at the roller posts and saw that some of you use 30"
slab rollers which makes me wonder, how thick a slab do you roll out?
I've been rolling thin slabs for hand building, from 1/8" to 1/4" using
home made shims, with a thick 2" dowel, I've been doing all my rolling
by hand. Am I...

Cone 4 Glazes by
Hugh
I am having trouble sourcing C4 glazes. They are to go on quite
textured non functional pieces, usually in conjunction with oxides
(parts with glaze and parts with oxide, not necessarily oxide under the
glaze) so while they need to provide good coverage, I dont want them to
obliterate the...
