Swan Cameo by
Ralph Gibson
Hello all,
My wife has asked me to make her a 14K Gold Pendant holding a Swan
Cameo.
She saw one that she likes in a catalog, about 30mm to 40mm tall, and
about
20mm to 25mm wide. The one she pointed out to me was a simple finished
Pendant with the Swan Cameo, hand carved in Italy, for about...

High preasure water drilling????? by
Jerry
Hi all,
Got into a discusion in a restraunt with some guy who thought it is
possible to drill beads by adapting a preasure washer like the ones used
for
stripping paint off buildings. I know water has been used in cutting
metal
and bricks and drilling wells, but never heard of it been used...

Correct Temper for Cutting 14K Gold by
jcd
I've searched old messages on this group and others, but haven't
found an answer to my question, so here goes.
I've never worked with cutting gold before, but have an idea for a
piece of jewelry. If I were to get a diamond wire saw (.3mm or .6mm
thick blades), what temper of gold should I...

Sterling silver question (.925) by
porkchops
Hello,
In 1998 I got a ring at a small gift shop at the mall called "Fire and
Ice" as a gift from my mom (not sure if any of you have heard of it,
but I think it closed down). Anyways, it's a sterling silver (has a
..925 engraved inside the band) oval peridot split shank band ring.
It's awesome...

Matching a stone by
Carl West
So, I've got this piece of antique costume jewelry (belonged to the client's
90-year-old friend's grandmother) that's missing a bunch of stones. The
remaining ones are glued in and have an octagonal tables and 8 simple facets
down to the girdle. I suspect they are rhinestones, but don't know enough...

An interesting watchmaking article from the NASA web site by
Peter W. Rowe
Seems the folks on the mars rover project wanted watches that read in =
local mars
time. The mars day is 39 minutes longer than earth's day, which =
apparently
presents a problem in this day and age of quartz controlled watches that
accuratly give us exactly 24 hour days... . I found this story...

To Quench or not to Quench? by
Jenny
What is the bottom line as far as quenching in pickle?
In school (way back when) it was grilled into my head "Never-Ever-Ever
quench anything in the pickle" though many people do...
I was never clear as to why one should or should not.
Possibly a safety issue (splash in eye) or for technical...

precious & semi/standard shapes by
m4816k
I'd have two questions regarding gems.
1. Why exactly are gems qualified as precious and semi-precious (why are
some considered precious and other semi-precious)?
2. If we take some weight of a stone (let's say 1,00 ct), which one of =
the
standard shapes would make the stone of that weight look...
