making laminated glass tubes by Bernhard Kuemel
Hi! I have glass tubes filled with liquid CO2 at high pressure and need to make it safe in case the tube explodes. Currently I put it in a protective polycarbonate tube, but I'm worried the PC might not last long enough. Some of the tubes might be in use for 100+ years. They are meant to be viewed...

'Serious' soldering iron - recommendations please ? by Adrian
HI Folks My usual weapon of choice is a temperature-controlled Weller 100W iron - which works very well for tiffany-style suncatchers, tealights and so on. Recently, I've been getting more commissions for copper-foil-based window / door panels - with correspondingly longer seams to be...

Patina verus metal-paint...? by Kris Krieger
Hi, all, I have tried using Patina on copper-foil pieces, but wasnt' all that impressed with it. I do know that metal paint (specifically, Rustoleum brand enamels) seem to totally seal the surface AND are just about indestructable. Tghe "hammered metal" finishes look pretty decent. Also,...

I am going to start clearing out "stuff", be it equipment that does n't get used enough, glass that is really great, but I have no particular use for, or old lamp molds, which haven't gone over real big lately. Currently I have a Denver wheel Engraver, about 15 years old, but almost no actual...

vacuum seal on experimental apparatus by Permafacture
Howdy: I'm planning an experimental apparatus. The part that i am asking about here is a seal between a borosilicate chamber (with an inch or so diameter opening) and small diameter metal tube. The chamber will be evacuated by an adsorbent and may pull a very decent vacuum, I'm not sure how...

forming a large diameter tube by Permafacture
I was thinking about how to slump a large diameter tube from a flat plane of glass. I have little experience with glass working and dont know to what degree this is workable... You'd take a piece of float glass, from like a window and slump it over a ceramic tube you made/found as a form. Put it...
