29 Potters Drowned!! by
Horatio
It's true: it happened in 1799 near the Coalport factory and kilns.
The whole story is told in a long, sad poem in the book "Coalport:
1750-1950" by the famous novelist, Compton Mackenzie.
As a result of an estate sale, I have been asked to auction some books
from a private library, including...

Ramping up, and other problems by
Seasa
I have a new Hormaca gas kiln. It's pretty straight forward, top load,
4 burners, 12 cubic feet, oval shaped.
I am new at the firing game, and I know these things take time &
experience. However, I have done 4 firings, one bisque, and 3 failed
attempts at glaze cone 5.
The problem seems to be the...

Can this help you? by
k
I found this on a bulletin board like this one and decided to try it.
Previously I was browsing through a newsgroup, as you are now, and came
across an article similar to this that said you could make thousands within
weeks with only an initial investment of £5.00! So I thought, this must be
a...

Different clay thickness in same firing by
CNB
Are there problems with firing a kiln load with bowls that are different
thicknesses? I want to fire some large bowls with some items that are
smaller and thinner in between the large bowls to fill the space. I can only
fit 2-3 bowls on a shelf and there is room left that could fit other...

Airbrush glaze by
Diego
I believe I've seen some pottery
done with an airbrush and thought the result was spectacular. Can
any of you give me an idea of what brand/model of airbrush would
be most compatible with pottery glazes? Also, what size compressor
would you recommend? I've seen a couple of brands in the arts...

Raku Basket by
Lcdumas
I love doing raku. I threw some cylinders and transformed them into cats by
folding over the top and then collaring in the neck. Cut out eyes, drew nose
and mouth, and punched two holes over each eye and three in each cheek for wire
insertion after firing. I dip the copper wire in E 6000 and...

Double Dipping by
Lindsay MacArthur
I often overlap glazes for color combinations and haven't had any
problems until recently. I dip in one glaze and let it dry and then
dip in the next. I just wanted to see how others double dip. Do you
let the glaze dry completely or what?

Raku frustration by
J.R.Lawson
Am frustrated, viewing so much great color that others have accomplished and
being unable to come close to some of the great blue/red copper results.
Have tried many recipies, firing up to cone 05/06 with pyrometer as guage.
Fiber kiln. Reduction in garbage can and round BBQ. Using...

Raku glaze marred by combustibles by
Cindy Ginter
Does anyone have any great ideas to minimize getting impressions in the
glaze (paper marks, sawdust dents etc). Seems like I have at least one pot
that gets the extra texture of the combustible material and I would like to
control this whenever possible!

*Really* white porcelain slip? by
Robert Galejs
Does anyone have any suggestions on where I might find a *really* white
porcelain slip? There are many companies out there selling slip that is
named all manner of white, but they all turn out rather gray or
yellowish when fired. I mean the kind of white that is the same color
as your standard...

Question about a Poole Pottery 'PKT' Peanut vase.. by
Acorn Antiquities
Hey there people!
I've been given a Poole Pottery PKT Peanut vase which I am now trying
to date.
I assume it was designed by Alfred Read, but I'm not sure who painted
it. Next to the Dolphin stamp on the bottom are some painted letters.
These look like "E/D PKT", though the E could be an F or a...

Small kiln? by
Sam
I am hoping I can get a recommendation on a small kiln for a shoestring
business. I only need a few inches in each direction, but $300+ is what I am
finding for some of the small table top kilns. If I knew a good make, I
might try to find a used one.
