why turn clothes inside out for washing by Alan Horowitz
I first observed people doing this when washing clothes by hand, in the Philippines. I presumed it was a local folkloric nonsense. Just recently, I noticed that the fine print of the Care Label of my jeans, includes a instruction to turn inside out before washing. What is the reason for it?

Question about Old Viking Sewing Machine by flan
I recv'd an old Viking machine(from someone who knows nothing about sewing machines) which appears to sew just fine except for the huge (3 rows of 15 settings/bs LCR Manual) red selection stitch/embroidery? knob which will not turn and will only allow normal stitch and zig zag. I've tried to search...

Ready made curtains: creases due to packaging by [email protected]
Every time I buy ready-made curtains they come out of the pack with deep creases on them, where the curtain has been folded. I invariably have to spend a lot of time ironing them to get the unsightly Last night it took me 2hrs to iron a pair of 66inch x 72 inch drop polycotton curtains, using an...

Singer Monogrammer for slant needle by Tom Farrell
Well, I got a Singer Monogrammer for slant needle machines on ebay for a few bucks, and it just arrived. The good news: it's in excellent condition. The bad news: No way in heck will it attach to a vertical needle sewing machine, such as mine. The mounting point is angled for a slant needle...

Sewing machines and table hockey by Arri London
The cats like to play table hockey after we've gone to bed. This seems to consist of chasing each other over the dining room table! Anything on the table gets knocked out of the way. Don't know how they score points though LOL Left the Pfaff on said table last night...It was on its back...

A Sewing Machine For The Workshop by Too_Many_Tools
On occasion I find myself needing to create items for the home workshop that require a sewing machine. I am looking for recommendations in what to look for in a sewing machine that will handle a number of differnet materials (canvas, cotton, thin leather) Any suggestions? Any suggested machines?

Hemming suede pants? by KatKaylor
I got two pairs of beautiful suede pants on sale. Unfortunately, I am only 5 feet tall and they need to come up about 4 inches. What is the best way to hem suede pants? I heard that some people use glue. Right now the edge is just unfinished. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks! "It is never too...

Replacing bra shelf foam with horsehair? by wurstergirl
I'm trying to innovate on a support shelf built into a soft cup bra, which is made of tricot-fused foam. It would be nice if it were a little cooler and thinner, making "less bra". (In a size 48J, that's a lotta foam.) My current thoughts are toward layering tricot with an equally supportive,...

Need help with making pro wrestling gear by Seth
I have been a pro wrestler for the past 10 years and have decided rather than relying on others to make my gear (costumes) for me, I would like to make my own. I have done research on the internet concerning sewing lyrca/spandex, stretch velvet. Most of the information pertains to costuming,...

Singer Touch-Tronic 2010 by [email protected]
Found it this afternoon at a thrift shop, under $30.00. It's in need of a thorough cleaning, but makes a beautiful stitch, sounds good, and it's a touch-panel machine!! 29+ built-in stitches, and so easy to use. I think this one might be the machine I give to GDD. Except it has an extra-long,...

Fabric inventory software recommendations? by Smokey
Hello all, Can anyone direct me to a good (but preferably cheap or FREE) software program to track my sewing fabric inventory? Some of the commercially available programs cost upwards to $30-$50, which makes freeware or sharewar much more appealing! Thanks! Smokey

Problems with Viking Rose by [email protected]
This is most definitely the spring or the switch it engages, im sorry they replaced all that, they do not know what they are doing apparently. I am a mechanic for our local shop... and yeah the lifter bar would have nothing to do with it as it is a cam on the presser foot lift paddle that engages...
