Brother PC-6000 vs Pfaff by DanceRat
Just getting started on this sewing machine buying adventure. We found a Brother pc-6000 for 700.00 used today, but I am seeing them new on the net for 699.00... my one question is that the pfaff salesperson was very opinionated in her statement about the ability of the pfaff to pretty much sew...

Sueded Tencel - which side out? by duh who
I've got some copperish colored sueded tencel that I'm about to make a shirt out of. The two sides each have their own qualities and I'm undecided on which to use. Either side shows a crumpled look, which is good. One side is shinier and shows the weave a little more evidently. The appeal is...

Help with flower girl's dress by Arlinda
I am making a dress for a flower girl. I am not a professional seamstress but I have sewn many nice dresses. The fabric is a satin with just a hint of shine. It has a 'slub' design that is selvage to selvage. It is probably a dupioni (sp?). I'd say it almost looks to have a linen look....

Books on Serging, recommendations please? by Diana Curtis
Hi, its me again.. the occasional lurker. waves to Kate and Cea and others who linger in RCTQ as well. Having made the decision to take the plunge and buy a serger I thought that it might be nice to know all the things that it can do for me and my sewing. Book reviews are nice, and I could wade...

Faux Western Yokes? by duh who
I'm trying to adapt a shirt pattern to do a faux western yoke. I've been doing these short-sleeve "sport" shirts out of contrasting batik fabrics. The fronts and backs of the shirt, and collar, are one fabric, and the yoke and sleeves are another fabric. The first one I did was with very...

Organic fabric source needed/ Personal Opinions on the topic by SewStorm
I had two children who were allergic to disposable diapers -- if they had them on, their bottoms would turn BEET RED in less than two hours -- All three of mine were allergic to disposables, and since I always thought it was BARBARIC to put an innocent little baby in plastic and paper all day,...

Sewing Eye Dog by [email protected]

Dem plackets by duh who
OK, betwixt glue stick, hand-basting, and watching what the hell I'm doing, I'm having better luck with the plackets. I saw another version of a placket in a book where that little pinnacle is sewn before hand, and then turned inside out before sewing it down to the shirt. So, instead of having...
