Newbie (Dumb Question) Why can't one put glaze on Greenware? by
NoSpam
Why can't one put glaze on Greenware? I don't understand...
I think the glaze would just soke into the greenware and leave the color
The glaze is just a glass sealer. What would happend if one glazed
greenware?
Does the greenware shrink in the kiln? Can someone explain?
Thanks...

slow cooling with digital electric kiln by
Mel[_2_]
I have a new Paragon Electric Kiln with a digital controler. I program
it for cone #5 with a 10 minute hold for my glazing. What slower
cooling rate than the normal cool down should I use to allow crystal
glazes to work and help keep Greenware from cracking?

Chemistry basics for potters? by
Bubbles_
Hi everyone
I have litterally only had about 3 lessons in Chemistry during my schooling,
due to a change of systems late in high-school. And those 3 lessons were so
far over my head, you wouldn't believe it.
Now, especially considering the problems I am having using other peoples'
glazes, I...

Making clay caves for aquarium fish... by
[email protected]
Hello,
I'm an aquarist, and many fish like to live or breed in shelters,
referred to as 'caves'.
Normally shattered plant-pots or terracotta tubes are used, like
this...

Skutt & Son Pottery Wheel? by
Pete Wolcott
I have aquired an old Skutt & Son Pottery Wheel Model B. Which I plan to
return to life.
If any of you are familiar with it, I would like to know how the rope switch
was originally attached to the foot peddle and how it operates.
Thanks,
Pete

Homemade propane nozzle? by
Bill DeWitt
I have seen some intricate plans for black iron nozzles but I wonder if
anyone knows of pages with any information about the -how- and -why- of
propane nozzle design. I'm wondering if I could shape one directly into the
firebrick.

Fun with Texture by
Lindsay MacArthur
I mainly make functional stoneware pieces fired to ^6 in an electric
kiln. I want to experiment with some fun textering and embedding and
was looking for ideas. For example, I know a potter who occasionally
fires some pieces wrapped in gauze and has even done a couple of
pieces where she wrapped...

Single Fire Cone 6 Oxidation by
DKat
I have posted this in the single firing group and no one seems home so I'm
reposting here.
I'm about to dive into single firing. The only issue I see is
Oxidation has a rather flat and dull pallet in general. For color I'm
currently using Pinnel's Green, Randy's Red, Honey, and Floating...

Cone 6 Glazes WITHOUT Gertsley Borate? by
dkat
Just curious how people are doing on coming up with glazes without Gertsley
Borate. Does anyone have a favorite out of the "Mastering Cone 6 Glazes"
book? All of the glazes we use in the studio I have worked in are based on
the various Gertsley formulas. The glazes I like are the Randy's...

manual kiln use by
Mike LaViolette
I purchased a manual kiln at an auction. It's a Skutt model 231-18
and is probably 35-40 years old. It's in excellent condition, in
fact, it's in better condition than the electronic kilns I use at the
contemporary pottery studio where I work. The person who owned the
kiln before me no longer...
