quilt spotting by
claudia
Good morning everyone!
My day already started 3 hours ago (and it's Saturday!!).
While waiting for the rest of the family to wake up, I'm playing
around on the computer. And I've had it with facebook games so I
thought of something else: how many of us can name tv series or movies
in which quilts...

Einstein was right by
Polly Esther[_5_]
You know - that smart old man that said insanity was doing the same thing
over and over again and expecting different results.
I had a box full of somewhat neatly cut squares and strips and thought
I'd make blocks and sort of diminish the scrap collection.
Wrong. While I was putting...

OT NightMist is Happy Dancing! by
NightMist
At least metaphorically.
Had my follow up appointment at Roswell today.
As many of you probably already know ovarian cancer has a dismal
mortality rate. Primarily because it is usually not discovered until it
is well advanced, generally stage 3 or 4. Considering the size of the
tumor I was...

fabric amounts for quilts by
Taria
So I come across a neat quilt in Fons and Porter's magazine (sept./oct.
2008) It is called Mariner's in a Pickle.
It could work for what I want to do. Under the materials list is 2-3/4 yds
of 17 prints. 2 yds. for binding and
14 yards for backing. That comes to a whopping 62-3/4 yards. My...

Just a happy story by
Polly Esther[_5_]
Do you remember a little more than a year ago when I made Puss in Bonnets
for an expected grand niece? The quilt was purrfect until I washed it and
the batik backing turned everything (including the zebra striped kitty, the
washing machine drum and my kitchen counter) a rowdy pink. No telling...

Making crib bumpers by
Michelle G.
First of all, I realize they are recommending that we don't use crib bumpers
at all; but, my GD is 16 months old and her mom wants new bumper pads. I
think she's too old for bumpers but. . . Anyway, can anyone tell me what to
use as the padding for the bumper pads? I've tried thick batting...

more PIQF by
Marcella Peek
Here's another slide show of quilts from PIQF take by the owner of
Thimble Creek quilt shop in Concord. Mine is the pineapple quilt at the
beginning - it wasn't part of the judged show, just part of an exhibit.

Home Again Home Again Jiggety Jig by
NightMist
I am returned!
The hospital finally let me out and I bolted for home.
Well, close anyway. They said I could leave and I kind of gimped into a
wheelchair and rolled out the door.
My stay was full of trials and travails.
At first they said I was doing great and could probably go home last...

is there a reason for becoming officially "not for profit"? by
Musicmaker
I'd like to begin providing quilts, both lap and bed, to the cancer
center my husband has been going to for chemo, and I don't know if I
should just make a page on my blog about it, and hope people
contribute orphan quilt tops and quilts, or become an actual non
profit organization with all the...

OT-Pink on Friday by
Steven Cook
I am SOOO excited about school tomorrow. No, not because it is the deadline
for Senior Pictures for the Yearbook, which it is. Nor because the Senior
Survey deadline is tomorrow, because it is. Nor that the deadline for the
Senior Tributes need to be in from Parents, which it is. My life...

OT - winter roadtrip by
Hanne in DK
Roadtrip suggestions wanted: For a winter roadtrip from Dulles - North
Alabama - Hampton Roads (VA) - Dulles.
I'm thinking af spending a total of about 5 days "on the road" with
stops in North Alabama and Hampton Roads (to visit!)
Is it worth going 300 miles out of the way to see Charleston,...

I wonder? by
Pat S
I have never before questioned those respected quilters who say that
they always do a double fold binding, because the edge always gets more
wear.
Well, I am giving a workshop next Saturday, on Borders and Bindings, and
I was just typing out my notes for it. I was giving detailed
instructions...

I've been playing by

with Dimensional Curved Patchwork. It goes pretty much like cathedral
windows piecing. The folds are peeled back and stitched so there's a curve
rather than a straight line. The designer is Annette Ornelas, QNM Nov 2002.
That was fun but not enough to make more than 3 blocks of those.

Wall hanging photos & quilting holiday review - long! by
Lizzy Taylor
I have put some photos of a wall hangings in my flickr album. The
smaller square one was completed on my recent trip to Spain, the long
one was completed back home.
Back in the spring I was supposed to be going on a short quilting break
taught by Dawn Cameron Dick, but unfortunately due to the...
