^10 - light reduction glazes by 5string
I recently switched studios from one that did ^10 heavy-reduction to one that does ^10 light-reduction. I tried a bunch of test tiles using glazes from my previous studio (i.e., heavy reduction) and the results were (not unexpectantly) disappointing. So..., any suggestions for some ^10 glazes...

Low-fire lead-free glazes? by 5string
Hi. I was looking at Charles Gillespie's Cone04 - Low Fire Pottery Book (2nd ed.), and noticed that most of the glaze recipes contain "white lead." Does anyone know of a source of low-fire LEAD-FREE glaze recipes? Or in the alternative, does anyone have any low-fire lead-free recipes that they...

glaze ingredient by Red Deer
Hi All, I have a recipe for a glaze that calls for R 10. I made the glaze and love it on a certain clay and I showed the piece to a friend. He wanted the recipe so I gave it to him and he asked me what is R 10 and I don't know. Here is the recipe: Randy's Red Cone 5-6 Flint ...

Some more YouTube from me by Bubbles_
Hi everyone :-) I have added to my YouTube "collection" with the process of making lidded balls and also the opening of my bisque kiln today. I am not posting because I want more hits on my videos. What I was hoping for was actually some feedback from "real" (as opposed to little-old amateur...

Castable clay by DKat
http://www.plaster.com/Howtoguides.html I strongly recommend you read this. I have been working in studios for years and a year ago found we have been doing things the wrong way and the hard way. We have always started stirring the plaster as soon as it hit water because we wanted it mixed...

Castable clay by Steve Mills
Bob, You will need to make a plaster mould of the tile form, as clay slip won't dry out successfully in a rubber mould. Make a plaster tile from your rubber mould and don't let it dry out! Get some Soft Soap (also known as Mould Maker's Size), and using a soft brush and a little water, work up a...

Bisque Fire question by [email protected]
So.... I accidently used Cone "4" to bisque fire a large number of vases, mugs, bowls etc.... Obviously I meant to use Cone "04"... Anyone know what the result is going to be? I'm going to do a test glaze fire shortly however I'm worried the pots are not going to accept any glaze. Thanks

Shino Clay Body by w
Any decent grade porcelain or white stoneware should work fine. Depends on what you want for a finish when it comes out of the kiln. Your shino is going to react differently with each clay body. Try one and see if you get what you like. Best, Wayne "Leonard" wrote in...

glazed pots not fired for months by DKat
I went away (travelling for many months) and left some pots that had been glazed but not fired on the shelf covered with plastic. Since I have never not fired my pots within a short period after glazing, I am not at all sure if this would cause a problem. Has anyone had any experience with...
