ADVICE NEEDED: carving rotor for hand-powered "helicopter" by
Hi all,
I'm trying to carve a simple, hand-powered "helicopter" that consists of
a horizonal rotor w/ a hole in the middle, in which a vertical shaft is
attached, round in section and a little smaller in diameter than a
pencil. When you spin the shaft rapidly between your palms, I've seen
these...

Eucalyptus and Mulberry by
Boomer
I've carved walking sticks from Eucalyptus and Mulberry with some degree of
success, although I am a rank amateur fer sure. Is there any special
processing that should be done on these woods prior to carving? Carving is
definitely easier when the wood is green, but I see in most threads that...

Basswood shopping by
sdenison
I do a great deal of pyrography-based plaques as gifts. Can anyone give me
a source for rounds (any size) at a good price? I'm tiring of the + or - $1
per inch diameter price average from the local stores.

asking for advice by
dnapoe
Hi all. Got a question to ask. I've been working with carving walking sticks
and some staves among other things and I've been trying out using a dremel
tool to carve some designs into the wood. I found a few "templates" online
(a wolf head and some entertwined dragons) but I'm looking for more...

whittling with utility knives by
BL
Would someone please help solve a debate? For basic whittling
(chains, letter openers from basswood), is a utility knife more
dangerous to the hands than a bought whittling knife? By "utility
knife", I mean the plastic units with the snap-off blade sections.
Opinions from experienced...

[email protected]
I am looking for info on what steel to use to make a woodcarving
knife.
Doggonit I've been wanting to do one of those for years! :)
How about I send you a blade blank with holes drilled in it and you
and your "handle buddy" do the rest? :)
I want to start with a blade that is 0.048" thick...
