Tokyo fabric shop? by
Frank & Karen Antalek
Does anyone out there have any experience with fabric shops in Tokyo? I
know we are quite the international group here, and many of you have
traveled a lot. We were there last year in January, and I guess didn't
have much time to look for fabric. We also didn't find too many local
folks that...

seam allowance by
Raye Ahn
I would consider this a "scant 1/4 inch" In other words, a little
under 1/4 inch. But I'd measure the seam allowance, when cutting the
piece out, to be 1/4 inch so that it will fit next to the foot on your
sewing machine. Most, not all, machine feet have a 1/4 inch marking or
"toe" on them.

Silly ? Seam Allowance by
Dee in Oz
Okay time for a silly question....
DH asked why we use a 1/4" seam allowance. Had to admit I didn't know
why I used it, just 'coz all the patterns say ?
Does anyone know the origins of it

Evil Sunbonnet Sue Block Swap by
georg
I would like to host this swap with a deadline of having blocks into me
around June 1, or Aug 1. This is not a sign up here now post- this is a
discussion right now.
Evil Sunbonnet Sue isn't the demure maiden in a dress with a hat doing
something like sniffing roses or interspersed with her buddy...

OT somewhat..an idea for links in your messages with quilts by
Joanna
Just a thought but someone else here said they skip messages where they
have to spend too much time guessing at things. I have a suggestion for
including links to your work of arts. When you want us to look at a
picture include the link right to that picture. No guessing what album
it's in. Maybe...

VERY old post! by
Denise Jameson in Ontario
Hi gang,
Well it seems DH has too much time on his hands! He decided to see
how long RCTQ has been on line in I know up to a few years ago you
could not search back to its very beginning in Deja News. Google has
now put back on the web all the posts to it's original formation (if
you know how to...

OT - Sad News by
Sharon Harper
It is with streaming eyes (and nose!) and very blotchy face that I have to
let you know my nanna passed away at 9am this morning. Mum called me this
arvo at about 4 and it has been a frantic dash to get plane flights and
babysitters organised. The girls will be home with family (DSIL) and I...

Clean Out your scraps box by
JL
I was thinking of mailing out a "Clean out your scraps box". I've seen this
done here a few times but have never participated. (I mail a box of scraps
to one person, they take what they want and add their own and send off to
the next person.)
Is anybody interested in this?

Toastmasters speech - not OT by
Brian Christiansen
I have decided to make my next Speech in Toastmasters about quilting. I
don't know how many people here are members of toastmaster's, but I would
think that some here have some heard of it and have some idea what it it and
does. Anyway, I thought about it a bit when driving home, then wrote down...

OT crockpot question by
Elizabeth Young
KJ wrote this a few days ago
I've done it again. I've lost something that HAS to be in my house....or
maybe not?! I guess I could have accidentally thrown it away. Anyway, just
before Christmas I treated myself to a new crockpot. One of those big ones
(6-6.5 qt)from Sam's that also had...

Fabric - the gift that keeps on giving.... by
Johanna Gibson
I found a half-yard of pastel blue with yellow flowers the other
day, when I was ironing. I am sure this was a squishie from some
kind, caring person, because pastels do not follow me home as a rule.
This fabric is perfect for the baby quilt I am now preparing to cut
out. What would I do without...

desired thread by

What thread do you prefer to machine piece your quilts??? And where
do you buy it??? What weight is the best???? I am starting my
wedding gift and need some thread. I'd like to use all-cotton but
can't find a fine thread. All I have is for quilting, much heavier
than for piecing, IMHO. I've...

Vacation of the Iguana by
Julia Altshuler
I've been in Miami watching my brother get married which he did in the

she's divorced with 2 kids. Me being me, I don't think of the inherent
difficulties with this sort of blended family; I think of the...

Rulers by

I know this has been discussed before, but I refuse to retain information
unless I need it. :-) I am in a position of being able to replace my old
rulers with (hopefully) one brand that will have consistent measurements. I
have such an assortment of sizes and shapes and really the only ones I...
