Shopping day / Trends in sewing machines by
Tom Farrell
So, I haven't been to my sewing machine dealer in a while... I haven't
been buying any sewing machines, I didn't need any more presser feet,
and I didn't have any friends buying stuff. But, I recently taught a
friend to sew, and I wanted him to visit a sewing machine dealer so he
could begin to get...

question about a simple machine to buy by
Rut
If I want a simple sewing machine to do nothing more than ocassional
pant hemming what would you recommend. I add the disclaimer that I
know nothing about sewing but I am assuming that hemming pants might
be one of the easiest sewing jobs, something I could figure out on my
own?
Thanks,
Rut

Beginner by
Laura
Hello. I'm new to sewing. I want to get started but I don't know
anything about it. I want to learn to sew so I can make things for
myself as well as mend what I already have. I don't have a sewing
machine yet but I am interested in getting one. I have several
problems. One: where do I seek...

9/11, sewing, and off topic thoughts by
Tom Farrell
And so another 9/11 has come and gone.
9/11/2001 began in confusion for me. I was recently unemployed, had
been up late, and overslept. I was awakened by my neighbor knocking on
my door. I grabbed my keys and stumbled blearily to the door, where he
told me two jetliners had flown into the World...

New Laundry web pages by
Tom Farrell
I said I'd post about this when it was ready...
I've written some web pages about doing laundry. It's about how to
make informed choices about detergents, washers, and water
temperature. The goal is to give you the information you need to make
your own choices, not for me to tell you how to do...

Happy me! Happy DD! by
Trish Brown
This arvo, I made DD a swimming costume! Just in time for school's
Intensive Swimming course on Wednesday, this project cost only twelve
dollars (AUS) and looks *great*! I'm *so* pleased!
See, DD has a leetle figure problem (large tummy) and the available
swimmers are all two-piece. Not a great...

one-way stretch by
PG
Any tips on cutting and sewing a one-way stretch fabric?
Here's my situation:
I'm a novice sewer. I'm making a halloween costume for my dd. I don't
have a serger; my machine does have a variety of stretch and
mock-overlock stitches.
Any input would be appreciated. TIA.

reels of felt by
Gary Mark Stocker
Does anyone know where you can order reels of medium thickness felt in the
UK? I have tried to from loads of places, such as haberdashers, etc,.
without any luck. It is needed to reline the belt on an exercise bike.
Thanks in advance.

boiled wool by
Pat in Virginia
Hello!
Boiled wool is a great fabric, IMO. I have some old woolen
sweaters and would like to use those to make boiled wool
vests (waistcoats.) If you have suggestions, I'd appreciate
your advice.
Thanks bunches. PAT in VA/USA

Nearly a week after they were lost, a very kind person handed in my DD's

"Sweater pic" -- where can I find one? by
Carolyn
I used to have a small tool which I was told was called a "sweater
pic". When you would get a "pull" in your sweater (for example, your
cat grabbed it and a piece of the weave was pulled into an extending
loop), you could insert this instrument from inside the sweater and
draw the "pull" into the...

Suggestions for cutting large numbers of strips by
FtForger
I took in a lot of the information about the neck chillers and started
to make some. I made 8 on the first run, and took them to a
blacksmithing workship I went to. Even though it was not above 70
degrees, and there was a nice breeze blowing, I still sold 5 of the 8.
I need to make a lot more, and...
