books by Annie
I am looking for some books by Debra & Steven Toi. They were published a few years ago. They are for stained-glass sculptural art and came with molds. I have just recently been made aware of them, and would love to get a hold of them to work with my mini-kiln. Any help would be appreciated. Annie

Hi I have a glass Demi-John, I need to cut the bottom off to make a bell jar piece of equipment for experiments. Some techniques scour the glass and then use a heated wire to shatter across the score. I have seen other methods such as filling the bottle with oil and inserting a hot piece of metal,...

Glass panels in wrought iron frames by AntiChrist
I have a nice source for wrought iron items with black powdercoat finish, all of which are for installing leaded panels. So I make the panels and they fit fairly nicely in the openings but how to secure them? My first thought was that you could solder them in but I can't seem to get the solder to...

wall sconce question by ariadne
Hello, I'm currently gathering ideas for a bid of building several stained glass wall sconces. Is there a source for the guts and backing of such a lamp where I could simply attach my own front panel or would it be better to purchase some from my local hardware shop and remove their panel and...

what's the difference between 60/40 and 50/50 solder? by [email protected]
Why would you prefer 50/50 over 60/40? I should know the answer to this. Seems to me I never used 50/50 solder when I had my own studio but I'll be darned if I can remember why!! Enlighten me please. Thanks.

copper soldering iron tip by [email protected]
Hi again, I'm facing things here that i never encountered in the US despite 8 years in the field. My new 150 Watt iron arrived yesterday...it's a copy of a German model but at 1/2 the price. i've never used a 'bent tip' before, so this should be interesting! but the new tip is totally copper.. it...

solder prices, etc. by [email protected]
Obtaining the right solder over here in Turkey has been an 'issue' for me right from the start. It was recommended that I purchase a brand I haven't heard of befo Feray... I'm assuming it's locally produced for the glass trade...I was told that almost everyone working with stained glass here...

oil fed cutters by [email protected]
Oh boy, I'm starting to feel way out of this whole field...and I thought I knew it so well. I did, but that was 18 years ago! So much has happened and so much as developed, I'm feeling very 'green'. My supplier, bless her heart, sent me a terrific selection of glass to choose from..along with a...

attaching panels to existing windows by [email protected]
My new studio isn't even open yet but last night someone came here to measure for the new studio door and when he learned what I'm planning to do here, he was surprised. Apparently, earlier in the day, one of his customers asked about a big stained glass panel 40" x 28" to go into his new PVC (? is...
