Copper inlays by
The Splanns
Hi everyone!
I've been reading the post for some time and I have a question too. Has anyone ever made anything with copper inlay? How exactly would copper act in cone 6 glaze firing? I would greatly appreciate your advice or even a reference to where I can find more information on a...

electric kiln firing questions by
Zander
Hi all,
When I was first setting up this kiln I got a lot of great advice from this
group. I've been set up for a few months now and have completed 2 firing
cycles (bisque/glaze) however, I still qualify as a complete newbie!
The kiln is an electric cylindrical kiln, 7 cu. ft. I have some...

Repair refractory material in a Paragon kiln? by
kay lancaster
I was recently given an older Paragon electric kiln, meant for china
painting (so it's not huge... about 18" across and deep) -- during
transport, the
refractory material in the bottom cracked, apparently along
brick-shaped lines.
The top looks like it would be moderately easy to reline, but I'm...

ferric chloride by
Red Deer
Hi All,
Speaking of raku, does anyone know where ferric chloride can be
obtained? I'm getting ready to get my own raku kiln and I like the
brown highlights spraying ferric chloride on horse hair pots gives. I
looked in all my pottery supply catalogues and can't find it. I was
rakuing at friends...

Single firing Done! by
DKat
Well I unloaded the kiln and was amazed how many pots came out with such few
flaws. One poor little pot was glazed and reglazed so many times that I was
never planning on firing it, just playing with techique. It got stuck in
just on principle and came out one of the better pots. The pots...

Skutt kiln by
Deborah M Riel
Does anyone have any information (or can point me to a link) for a
Skutt 231X kiln? I'm trying to decide whether or not to buy one.
I've googled and can't find any info on this model, so I'm assuming
it's not in production any more. The person selling it says it's a
never-been-fired kiln, but I...

Röhmertopf? by
Bubbles
Hi folks
Hubby is giving me new challenges. This time, he has asked me to make a
röhmertopf.
I have started, but now I am having misgivings. The clay I use is a
high-fire clay that can be fired to 1350 C. But I know that it has to be
low-fired (1000 C), in order to be able to absorb some of the...

How to make a simple pyrometer for raku work by

Hi,
I would like to make a very simple pyrometer for raku work. I know that
most people do not regard this as necessary but I would like to include
temperature as one of the many things I look at when playing around :-)
Can someone point me to a link/instructions on how to construction a

Tiny wood fired kiln? by
Sarah Hembree
Hi All,
Was wondering if anyone has seen a tiny wood fired kiln,
cone 10 or so. Also wondering if there is such a thing as *too small a
wood fired kiln, as in, would the, say, physics of the firing process
(air, firbox, flue, chimney, flame flow, etc...) breakdown at some
point? Or another way of...

Christmas houses? by
Bill DeWitt
I was thinking about starting to make my own Christmas town houses. So far
my idea is to press some tiles in the shape of walls and roofs and bonding
them together. This is (IMO) better than attempting to make a multipart mold
and slip casting it.
But since I don't know the pro's and con's of...

Want to Learn Pottery by
Bubba
Hello to all,
In the city where I live, I have been trying to find someone to teach
pottery. However, I have been unsuccessful. The local university
teaches pottery, but requires all sorts of prerequisites to take the
course. And, I don't want to work towards an art degree just to take a
pottery...

Rice grains in walls of porcelain bowls by
KSL
I am interested in the techniques used to put grains of rice into the walls
of porcelain bowls.
Are the bowls thrown or slip cast?
At which stage of the procedure is the rice inserted?
Must the wall be as thin as the rice is thick so that it is exposed on both
sides?
