Looking for Recommendations for Speakers and Teachers by deschuit
Who would you recommend as a great speaker and teacher for a quilt guild? I am looking to book two well-know speakers/teachers for the 2011-2012 year and just know you will have plenty of suggestions. We have Nancy Brenan Daniel and Karen Comb booked for 2010-2011. Kathy in NH

need help identifying this quilt pattern by dealer83
I'm flying high tonight....today I stopped at a thrift store and found this older quilt for $25. It's big, full size,I think, with machine piecing and then hand quilted in a very small 1/2" grid pattern in the lighter sections and echo quilted around the shapes. Does anyone know the pattern name...

Directory by Sally Swindells
Just wondering about the directory. A few e-mails have gone astray recently and as I've been coming and going a lot I'm just a bit concerned I may have missed it, or even deleted it by mistake. (I did fill the 'form' in.) -- Sally at the Seaside...

OT vision implant LONG by Polly Esther[_5_]
I just can not believe I'm needing to do this again and so soon. Here I am needing your wisdom on something terribly important. "At my age", the doctor says, (an unfortunate expression to any one) I have the beginnings of cataracts. He says they can wait, they can be removed now or later. ...

OT Fairy Gardens by Susan Laity Price
A local garden center has a special display of "Fairy Gardens" this week end. They are a combination of small plants and scale model miniatures creating delightful scenes. Some have fairy dolls but others are just furniture or tools in fairy size. They show how to use all types of containers or...

A new machine for my quilter? by Ed from AZ
My wife has made do all these years with older hand-me-down machines. If she ever had a new one, it was long ago and a cheap one. back then, though, she didn't do much sewing except for making and mending clothes. Now she's discovered the joys of quilting. But her machine isn't really up to the...

I have a question about backing material by dealer83
I'm in the process of making a 'scrappy' quilt. I have enough backing fabric to run the seam horizontally across the middle but not enough to use it vertically with it seamed on each side. Every book I've read says never do a horizontal seam on the back. Is this just for visual appeal or is...

Funniest quote in a kong time! by Leslie& The Furbabies in MO.
I subscribe to Ami Simms' monthly newsletter. She had quoted this comment from another subscriber. I LOVE it!!! "Ami, I just love your newsletter. No, I didn't pee my pants, I was just laughing so hard that I had tears running down my legs." Lynn (Worcester, MA) Leslie- LOL all over again!...

Memorial Day USA 2010 by Pat in Virginia
Today is Memorial Day here in the United States of America. I pause to remember those Americans who paid the ultimate price for the freedom I enjoy today. I appreciate all the men and women who have served honorably since 1775. Some died right here in my county: Battle of Yorktown, October 1781....

Rob Peter to Pay Paul by Marilyn
A customer came into the store the other day asking if there were templates for this pattern. I tried a search from my distributors but didn't find what I thought would work. Does anyone have an acrylic template? Name on the template as in who makes it. Your help is appreciated. Marilyn

Quilt restoration-need contacts please!!! by amy in CNY
As most of you know, I live in Central NY. A dear friend of mine has inhereted an old quilt from her mom after she passed away, but it is in deplorable condition. My DF would like to have it restored, but I cannot seem to find anyone in my area who does this. I know, with all you girls'...

Clean up advice by Maureen Wozniak
I have a couple of tops that soaked up some of the water. (No, they weren't on the floor, but they were hanging low enough to get wet). And it wasn't exactly the world's cleanest water either. If it was just yardage, I'd toss in the washer. In fact, I've been doing that with quite a bit of...

What is this technique called? by Pat in Virginia
Several years ago there was a minor craze to make fabric 'pictures' using tiny scraps. The scraps were like confetti and were attached to a base and covered with netting I think. Maybe fusible was involved. Some of the pictures were realistic, such as trees and others were more stylized like...

Rediscovery! by heidi (was rabbit2b)
Good grief. I can't believe how much easier it is to attach binding using a walking foot! It was the same kind of duh/aha! moment as cutting with a new rotary blade. I really feel silly. --Heidi http://www.flickr.com/photos/32113973@N05/

Pieced or unpieced on the bottom? by Susan Laity Price
In Edna's post about uneven flying geese there was a discussion about which should be on the bottom, the pieced section or the unpieced section. I have always heard that the larger (in this case longer) piece should be on the bottom because the feed dogs help ease in the extra fabric. Alex Anderson...
