Socks progress by
C. Mathews
Well, I am sure that some of you more experienced knitters will have a
chuckle over my progress report, but I am not laughing. :-(
I am using the yarn that makes its own pattern. The directions said to use
size 2 or 3 dpns. I only had # 3 so I used them.
Now I find that the sock is too baggy,...

Needle/Hook Size by
Kathryn
Hi all!
I was wondering if it REALLY matters what size needles you knit with or what
size hook you crochet with. I see that each skein of yarn tells what size
to use, but I assume they're just guidelines. Of course you probably have
to use the size specified if you're following a pattern, but...

My projects & me by
Mlle Ilvesvuori
Hi ladies and gents!
How are you? I am just fine, as you know. I hope I will get in when Feb. 6x6
Exch. will happen. And then...my NYCO could be...the fronts of one certain
jacket. You see, I made the back in 2003 but the front...it was only in my
head in New Year's Eve. Now it is on my needles....

Sweaters by
Karen in MN
Had to share these, they came in my newsletter from Mental Floss (which is
right up there with Knitters and Vogue Knitting for my favorite magazines :)
Hope I'm not breaking any copyrights, I didn't see anything on there about
not copying it.

Woolen vs. Worsted by
Slinky
Ranee was bang-on in her description of woolen and worsted yarns, as
far as she went.
Worsted yarns are spun from wool that has been combed into a long thin
strand. All of the wool fibers in the strand point in the same
direction; think about filling a soda straw with toothpicks - all...

Baby pattern by
Christine and Jill
I have asked at my LYS, but they cannot locate a copy of Elizabeth
Zimmerman's Baby Surprise Jacket. I imagine it may be out of print. Is
this pattern available on the internet?
Also, one of my colleagues will have a cesarean section this week, a month
before her due date. I need a quick baby...

6X6 received by
Janise Ross
I am very happy to report that I received some wonderful squares in the mail
from Liz1958 today! Thanks, Liz. Ironically, we mailed our squares on the
same day (1/15), but mine made it to England 1 day quicker than Liz's took
to get to NY. The wait was worth it.

Rowan Big Wool Replacement by
[email protected]
Hello! I'm usually a lurker here, but I'm looking for a
yarn that is similar in size/type to Rowan Big Wool. I have
two of the Big books from Rowan and want to test out the
pattern before doing it in the big wool. Anyone know if there
is a less expensive yarn that I can check out first?
Any...

Gauge by
Atara
If anyone is teaching someone how to knit, and is explaining gauge and its
importance in the world, I can provide you with a graphical example of WHY
gauge is so important.

"ribbon" scarf by
Shirley Luton
Hi all,
A while (like a year or so ;) ) I bought a skein of 1/8" thick flat "yarn"
(it's really more like ribbon). It's a really pretty, variegated
blue/green - looks kind of ocean-like. Anyway, I thought I'd make a scarf.
Finally did it - just a plain garter stitch because I thought the...
