9/11, sewing, and off topic thoughts by
Tom Farrell
And so another 9/11 has come and gone.
9/11/2001 began in confusion for me. I was recently unemployed, had
been up late, and overslept. I was awakened by my neighbor knocking on
my door. I grabbed my keys and stumbled blearily to the door, where he
told me two jetliners had flown into the World...

Compact sewing machine suggestion by
Melinda Meahan - take out TRASH to reply
I am trying to figure out what kind of compact-sized sewing machine to
send my daughter at college and thought I would take suggestions here.
I doubt she is going to be doing a lot of sewing over there, but she
does split seams, rip pockets, and tear out hems a lot, and she might
sew a skirt or two...

Sewing machines and table hockey by
Arri London
The cats like to play table hockey after we've gone to bed. This seems
to consist of chasing each other over the dining room table! Anything on
the table gets knocked out of the way. Don't know how they score points
though LOL
Left the Pfaff on said table last night...It was on its back...

Replacing bra shelf foam with horsehair? by
wurstergirl
I'm trying to innovate on a support shelf built into a soft cup bra,
which is made of tricot-fused foam. It would be nice if it were a
little cooler and thinner, making "less bra". (In a size 48J, that's a
lotta foam.) My current thoughts are toward layering tricot with an
equally supportive,...

why turn clothes inside out for washing by
Alan Horowitz
I first observed people doing this when washing clothes by hand, in
the Philippines. I presumed it was a local folkloric nonsense.
Just recently, I noticed that the fine print of the Care Label of my
jeans, includes a instruction to turn inside out before washing.
What is the reason for it?

Invisible Zipper by
Cherry Delaney
Over Christmas I was trying to sew a velvet dress and thought the invisible
zipper would look nice. The first attempt, I melted the zipper teeth, the
second attempt, my foot sewed too close to the teeth. Do any of you have
good experience with either a Bernina or Viking and what foot did you use...

A Sewing Machine For The Workshop by
Too_Many_Tools
On occasion I find myself needing to create items for the home
workshop that require a sewing machine.
I am looking for recommendations in what to look for in a sewing
machine that will handle a number of differnet materials (canvas,
cotton, thin leather)
Any suggestions?
Any suggested machines?

pattern storage by
DKiely33
What is the best way to store patterns that have already been used, cut and
will be used again?
I'm going to be setting up a little sewing area and would like to know how to
set it up correctly from the start.
Would an art store be useful for storage options?
Thanks, :)

sewing box - HELP! by
Valkyrie
I am putting together some sewing boxes for a few of the 20-30 somethings on
my list. It seems there's always talk among my sons group that finding a
needle to sew on a button or make a quick fix is a problem. I have some of
those little metal lunch boxes and I'm going to put the stuff in those....

Maine-iac Rose
I have a request for some prayers for my dear cousin, the same age as me,
that had sinus surgery last month, but is now in hospital in ICU at Mass
General from an aneurysm. I have been praying since I found out, but now
just wanted to ask you kindly folks to pray along with me.
TIA

Where is everybody? by

Okay ladies (and gents):
Get out from under your crinolines, prom dresses, quilts and costumes and
check in with us!
I have visions of Tom being rolled down the streets of New York having eaten
too much (sorry, I'm still envious!), Joy getting mugged by American Doll
collectors for her patterns,...

Hi, I'm a relative newbie here from the southeastern part of the US and
have enjoyed reading so many posts from everyone who've got the most
interesting things going on with their creative endeavors! You're all
so creative! It's inspiring, really and I hope just a bit of that rubs
off here....

Snap tape by
Karen Maslowski
Cynthia, I also like this kind of tape, and was mystified by so many
saying not to use it. It's gentler to baby skin, IMO.

Another First by

Dear Diary,
Today I actually toured TSWLTH, a full frontal ten-finger digital
assault, and came out unscathed, wallet intact, having purchased
Nothing. Zip. Zero. Nada. This is a ground-shaking event, so I wanted
to record the happening for posterity.
I felt everything in the store--well, not...

Shocking the employees at Jo-Ann's by
duh who
I went into Jo-Ann's tonight to get some interfacing. I'm not sure how the
woman got the idea that I was "repairing" my own shirts. When I said
"Repair? I make them from scratch."
And then there's Betzina's books that never deal with men's clothing.
Its such a hard life living with this...
