Making a weighted blanket by
NightMist
I have contemplated weighted blankets for a while.
They are usually highly recommended for developmentally disabled children
and adults, or people of any age that engage in what appear to be
restless repetitive behaviors. Look up pressure therapy for more info.
We have been getting by with...

New quilter by
Catherine
Hello ladies and gentlemen,
I've been wanting to begin quilting as a hobby for as long as I can
remember - since about age 14 when I saw my grandmother's beautiful
handmade quilts, and I'm 37 today.
I don't own a sewing machine and don't know how to use one as I've
never really tried. I never...

looking for a star pattern by
Idahoqltr[_2_]
My friend wants an Ohio Star lap quilt and I am thinking that done
traditionally that is a little too much trouble. Does anyone know of
a speed method or a fairly simple star pattern. I am wanting
something one might make as a charity quilt - something to be whipped
up in a few weeks. Thanks for...

Roll Call: What did you do "quilty" today? by
Kate G.
I didn't get any sewing done... but did receive a special goody in the mail! Nancy's Notions had
advertised a great deal on thread with a nice storage case AND a sewing machine travel case. I
splurged. It came today. I am so excited!
I hope to get back to work on the DWR tomorrow.
Friday I...

micro quilt for Sofi by
DrQuilter
Went to a yard sale in the huge 2M dollar house across the street with a
a great view of Lake Washington.
OK, I confess, I've always been curious about this house, so when I saw
the signs while pushing Sofi's stroller down the street trying to get
her to sleep (we have a hard time getting her to...

Quilting Now? by
Polly Esther[_5_]
What are you stitching just now?
I have a jungle symphony on the design wall: lions and tigers and
bears. An elephant, 3 zebras and all manner of kangaroo spots and jungle
greenery. The arrangement was just much too 'expected' so I tossed in the
Easter Bunny.
Ah. just right.
And...

calling all of you who decided last minute you might come this year!!!!

What kind of batting do you use? by
KT in Mich[_2_]
With the bitter cold we are experiencing in most of the US right now,
it's been a good time to "test" all those quilts we've made. Big
disappointment for me. With one exception, I've always used Warm and
Natural needled cotton. I like it because it can be quilted up to 10
inches apart. But I...

hug quilts thoughts by
Taria
Is there any reason we don't have a couple of hug quilts set back
in case of short order need? Sometimes we really could use a
hug that gets where it is going kind of quickly. I know it wouldn't be
as personal but in a case like the Gifford hug we could have had one
to her right away.
Just a...

QSD: Quilt Style Discussion
This is an occasional forum to discuss some basic quilt styles.
They aren't necessarily the quilts we are sewing/quilting now.
This is just a chance for open discussion of the topic.
If you need/want to change the topic, please open a new thread!
This is not the place...

Have a loved one with Alzheimer's ? by
polly esther
Back in QNM's October 04 issue, there's an article titled "The Power of
Touch". The writer suggests that touching and rubbing fabric reduces stress
and anxiety in Alzheimer's patients. Contrast in touch is recommended for a
lap quilt - satin, brocade, silk, seersucker, fake fur, linen - any...

OT front loading washers by
Taria
Time to upgrade my washing machine. Water going up 29% and I need to
reduce. The old machine (as Candice Olsen would say) doesn't owe anyone
anything. It has served long and hard. I'll take any good and bad
comments or things to watch for in the newer front loaders.
Oh, I prewash my fabrics so...

first crazy quilt by
julia sidebottom
Just looking at a post a moment ago reminded me that I just recently
made my first successful crazy quilt top.
For whatever the reason I have always been afraid to make one. I did
attempt one a hundred or so years ago before I learned the joy of
patchwork and that was such a disaster I was...

Peltex vs. Timtex? by
nbhilyard
I went to TSWLTH yesterday to take advantage of the 10% off coupon (good on
the entire purchase) as well as some one-day specials.
I bought a yard of Peltex, the heavy-duty interfacing that is the Pellon
equivalent of Timtx. Is it the same? Is it markedly inferior or superior?
The regular price...
