Cutting borders from lengthwise grain? by
Adella
Do you always cut your borders from the lengthwise grain? I know that's
what the books say and I understand the rationale.
But....I don't have enough fabric to cut the borders for my baby quilt
along the lengthwise grain.
So I'm cutting them crosswise.
Will I go to quilt jail? Will my borders be...

ideas for swimming themed quilt? by
Morag in Oxford
Hi all,
My little son got his first "little duckling" swimming award today - I was
so proud! Although he's not yet 2, he's been coming to parent and child
swimming since he was 6 months, and he adores it.
Rather than sewing the patches/badges onto his swimsuit - as he'll grow like
a weed and...

OT a new feature of Frappr and a poll by
Anne in CA
The Frappr guys (generic term including guys and gals) have added a
feature for custom pins. There are 5 different colored pins now and they
can be set to any meaning the admin specifies :-)
Would you like me to activate this feature on the RCTQ map? If so, what
should the 5 colors be set to...

Desert Island Quilt books/tools/notions by
Jo Gibson[_3_]
For those who don't know Desert Island Discs, it is a program on the
radio in the UK where a guest is invited on, and asked which 8 pieces of
music, one book and one luxury item they would take, if stranded on a
desert island. This program has been broadcast since 1942.
More information...

Machine Dealer Rant - long by
witchystitcher
Bought a Brother Serger on Ebay from a dealer who had closed up shop.
One of these fancy, schmancy, do everything jobbies. I usually have no
problems using sewing machines and have owned sergers before. BUT, the
directions were just awful on this one and I could not, for the life
of me, figure out...

Has anyone found (fabric) Jelly Rolls uneven? by
Susan Laity Price
Thought I better but the word fabric in the subject line so we won't
waste time on all the pastry comments.
I sewed with a Jelly Roll package for the first time today. It was a
Hoffman Batik for which I pay $36! Every piece was to have been a 2
1/2" strip. I was very disappointed at how poorly...

Sewing Summer Clothes by
Bobbie Sews More
I've been busy sewing summer play clothes for GD and teaching her sewing at
the same time. That means, at 12 yr. old the first part of July, she has
been helping me and learning at the same time. This week end we will be
making matching headbands, and maybe quilting material to make a tote...

The quilt block that almost did me in! by
Leslie & The Furbabies in MO.
My Women's Shelter HUG quilt block has curved Flying Geese in a plaid
fabric, side triangles that shade from deep gold to almost white and
appliqued free-floating triangles. Quite the challenging block for me!
Now, it's done and you can see it in my Webshots...

Wonder Clips and other random stuff by
Brian Christiansen
Sometime in the past, I suppose, I started making a pair of gi pants for
a martial arts class I was in at the time, which I did not finish (the
pants, not the martial arts class).
A few days ago, I found the pieces of it, 2 legs that had the inseam
sewn on each leg, but the legs had not yet...

Houston IQF is gettin closer! by
KCK
Yes, summer is going to be over before we know it!
If you can, do consider staying over Sunday. Some of us who went back
to the festival on Sunday last year have compared notes and agree that
the light crowd made it a really enjoyable (and productive) day. It's
much easier to walk the aisles,...

OT - Fruitcake discrimination! by
Kathy Applebaum
All this talk about fruitcake here got me drooling, so I decided it was
about time to make myself one. Got plenty of wheat-free flour at Whole
Foods, and then went to my regular grocery store for the candied fruit.
Walked all around the store, several times. Checked the baking area, the
dried fruit...

What's on your (quilt-related) Christmas list? by

What kind of quilt-related things are you asking for or hoping that you
get this holiday season? There isn't much that I need and I've got about
as much fabric as I have room for, but I have asked for a bunch of the

I just started quilting in June of 2004 with an online yahoo quilt group.
